That's my thoughts exactly. The environment was cool, too - but the animations were really really really great.

Just to make it clear: I don't think any part of Doom³ was really 'ugly' - just that some things like humans could have been done a little better.

Well I hope the game doesn't start on the ship. I hope it will start in the reservation where you can walk around and go to the grandfather's bar and check out Tommy's lady friend. I hope they use the Doom 3 engine to thes max and make us swallow our own smug words.

It really does look like a distant relative of the Cyber Demon.

To the 3DR or the Human Head guys, I really have to ask who was in charge of the monster design? And did they realize that a few of the designs looked suspisouly similar to Doom monsters?

^ What personal bias? I'm looking forward to to this game as well. But there's no denying that the Cyber Demon looks a lot like that creature in Prey. But I really don't see any similarities in the rest of the images that Cerberus_e posted.

I hope the "alien mother-ship" isn't an excuse like Doom 3's mars was.

They said that because the game was based on Mars, they didnt need alot of light and such. That's just an excuse, IMO.

When are we going to see the Doom 3 engine produce something that us Duke3d fans enjoy?

Re: for anyone wanting the prey screenshots from P
When you death walk, you go into the spirit world and hunt spirit animals...in the picture of the sprirt guide you can see what looks like a canyon on Earth in the background. This makes me wonder if the spirit world is going to be an outdoor type enviroment...it seems to make sense (I doubt Native Americans thought the spirit world looked like an alien spaceship).

Also the article mentions a cutscene of the bar getting ripped apart, so that seems to indicate the game starts on Earth before the invasion (if they're aiming at a story which the player cares about, they'll probably start out letting you get to know people before things go to hell).

Oh, and I don't really think Prey looks like Doom 3...sort of similar because they're both sci-fi games with cyborg like creatures (as is Quake IV for that matter), but different in that the overall look of things seems more green and organic. Doom 3 was more red and dry, like fire. Quake IV ought to be orange and desert-like/warzone-ish.
Oh, and the aliens with guns coming out of the portal certainly don't like something from Doom 3.

Judging by the scans, it's looking lot like Doom 3, except less shadows. It's just the art direction they have chosen though, the Doom engine can look very different to Doom 3.

The portals and all that will make it unique enough, but the screenshots are just pipes and cyborgs.

We have to remember that we've seen nothing so far. Also, the game is set on a Alien ship... why was there a human city-like level in the old video? Hell, even a bathroom, lounge inside a house, etc. Where's that cool stuff gone?

Here's something that X-Vector posted in another thread...

Quote:
Although the details are being kept under wraps, Talon will battle a triad of alien species called the Trocara. During the game, the creatures abduct him and take him to their mothership, an immense ring-like ship with a manufactured sun in the center three times the circumference of Earth, and three land masses, each with its own atmosphere, that rotate around the sun. Schuytema said the first third of the game will take place in Arizona, while the final two-thirds will transpire on the mothership.
http://www.crus.com/software/previews/prey.html

My guess the house and the bathroom that we saw in the old demo videos took place in the Arizona portion of the game, and the futuristic city took place in one of the alien land masses on board the ship.

The new PC Gamer article says that the game still starts in Arizona like they originally planned, but who knows if that means the Arizona portion will still be playable, or if it will be just a cut scene?

There's still no mention yet if the alien ship will resemble what was described in that quote I posted, though.

It's gone cuz that stuff was stupid. How does a town house have anything to do with a Sci Fi setting?

afaik the old prey was set in an Alien world which you had to escape, not a ship (explains city in old vid) also the normal house part in the old video was most likely just a tech demo showing of the level of detail they where capable, not a part of the game at all.

Besides, nothing from the old builds (content wise) is left i presume since that's like 7 years old stuff, the story has been redesigned aswell so in reality we don't know much at all about this new Prey.

Yeah, it's still really dark. That's much different from Doom III ("The Dark Mod" lol)

I seriously think Carmack should kick himself in the ass for his lighting technique. Far Cry had somewhat of the same type and it was still bright and beautiful.

Re: for anyone wanting the prey screenshots from P
Carmack wrote an ambient light shader with the intention that it would be used...if people want to brighten things up, they can just drop an ambient light in (in fact, with one big ambient light, you can ensure that there isn't a single pitch black area in any part of a level). So far neither Quake IV or Prey have really shown much in the way of enviroments that should be brighter...however, as I've pointed out before the sprirt guide picture clearly shows a very bright enviroment (it appears to have an ambient light as well judging by the sprirt guide's shadow).

It did in the preview that I posted for the old Prey. The Alien ship was suppose to be so large that it contained its own miniature solar system with its own manufactured sun and three planets that orbit around it. The city was suppose in one of those planets.

It even described that there would be ships that you could pilot from planet to planet.

Speculation of course...but maybe there's the possibility this 'alien' ship carved-out a piece of the city (in Arizona)...and now sits in a large (large) hangar area in the belly of sed alien ship.

Would be a cool cut scene at least....
