Re: The New Hardware Thread
Sounds good. Also, it does seems that there's better HSFs than Intel's stock one. I was looking at the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev. 2, since it seems to be updated for Haswell compatibility, and seems to match the Phantom 630 for fan styling. I've seen that the Hyper 212's are best, but Newegg hardly ever seems to have them in stock, and I've heard horror stories of those that buy those through third-party vendors.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Needed something extra for when I'm not at home at my desktop, so I got myself an asus gaming laptop. Was well worth the price, even if I don't expect it to pull off Crysis 3

Re: The New Hardware Thread
I was getting a bit low on drive space and GTA V PC is apparently only a month away, so I just added a WD Blue 1TB HDD to my setup.
Currently migrating my Steam installation to the new drive (at a measly 64MB/s with 145GB to go), hope everything goes smoothly.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Pulled the trigger on a Logitech G710 mechanical keyboard, a 4-pack of CM case fans, and a Hyper 212 EVO for the CPU. Now it's time to concentrate my efforts on the PC build itself. Got all the peripherals needed for it, and all the drives, storage, and addons. Felt that it's best to work "from the outside in" for once. Now for the build, of course it'll still be from the inside out on that end.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Okay... Saw some good deals on a Cooler Master Storm Trooper, and a EVGA G2 850W PSU, and thought those would be good. It seems that the Storm Trooper gets better ratings than the Phantom 630 Case, and I love that it was $30 than the Stryker. Plus the black/red scheme seems to match up more with most of today's gaming mobos and GPUs, anyway. Also, I'm sure that a 850W PSU would do nicely with the GPUs and CPUs being rather demanding. I've been good with Corsair in the past, but it just seems that EVGA out of nowhere seems to be getting better nods with PSUs.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
It seems that most PSU's are hit and miss with people receiving dead ones or ones that die soon after. I have got a 1000w Cougar PSU, it seems to be working alright 6 months in and no hiccups so far (touch wood).

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Haven't had one bit of trouble with the Corsair ones, but I'm keeping the old rig intact...the one I am in the process of building is going to be a from-scratch build through and through...and seeing all the good ratings on the SuperNOVA PSUs, thought I'd give that one a try.
Also, I feel that for a full-tower case, it seems that the Storm Trooper is a good "middle ground" choice, since I was torn between the Phantom 630 and a HAF X for quite some time, and after seeing what CM's Storm cases were like, I was like... "Definitely the best of both worlds under the same roof with this one." Don't think I'll regret the Storm Trooper, that's for sure.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
All righty, another payday, another component to add to my list to add to my build.
Pulled the trigger on this big boy... Not bad to have a Superclocked version for only $3 more than the base clocked version, I'd say. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814487079 Next pay will be for of course, the CPU, Motherboard, and hopefully RAM, too... That might wind up completing everything I need for the build.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Let's hope this completes the build, if I need to, I can always add a second SSD down the road. Especially since Newegg had the Maximus VII Hero for UNDER $200, and with today being another payday, I had to act.
So, I have an Intel i7 4790K, ASUS MAXIMUS VII Hero Mobo, and Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB DDR3-2400 on order, should really go well with that GTX 980 SC for sure. Hard to believe that Newegg would have a ROG board for under the $200 mark... I bet it won't last the whole weekend. That seems to be the mobo Newegg always sells out of.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
I bought myself a Saitek R.A.T 9 wireless gaming mouse, it's not too bad, good customisation but bad battery life. At least they give you two batteries.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Personally, Saitek's stuff went downhill once Mad Katz bought them.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
I would've thought of Saitek, or even Razer, but since I've heard many good things about the G502, the Proteus Core just seemed to be the one.
EDIT: All righty, NOW I have everything needed for this build. Rounded out with these: Samsung 850 Pro 512GB (Sammy 850 Pro 512GB for Steam, Intel 730 480GB SSD for boot) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820147361 ASUS RoG Front Base addon for the Maximus VII Hero http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813995030 Rosewill 45-piece tool kit http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16899261003 Startech Anti-Static Mat http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16899200006

Yes. Before it happened I heard a lot popping sound. Following that, I wasn't able to turn it on. Worked 5 minutes earlier.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Last week, upgraded to 16GB DDR3 2400 Corsair Vengeance.
Took my old 8GB DDR3 1600 and put it in my wife's PC.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Bought a new dual band AC modem. I also had to buy an Intel AC 7260 wifi chip for my laptop, being an Asus there isn't a bios whitelist so it works and i also now have the benefit of Bluetooth which i'll never use but it's good to know it's there.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
Seems that the Windows Tablet that I had for the past couple of years is kind of a dead-end in terms of doing anything practical anymore. It's clearly just chugging along, and certainly doesn't seem like it'll upgrade to Windows 10 that easily, given the incompatible hardware. So I wound up pulling the trigger on a 64GB iPad Air 2, seems that this might just be a bit more long term (hopefully). Then again, the iPads are far more supported, hardly any love for Microsoft this day in age on the mobile front.

Re: The New Hardware Thread
I got an internal hard drive and external for some backups. Also got a USB 3 controller for my old computer, because the old USB 3 card died. turns out the slot is bad. I think there is also a power issue with the mainboard. I'll be building a new computer in the next few months, depending on how long it lasts.
