I'm pretty sure the final box design will have a picture of Duke on it. He's an iconic video game character so he must be in a cool pose like the DN3D cover.

Well if I had an image (in a close enough perspective) of Duke pointing guns straight at you. Say from the waist up that could work. I'd make it fade out towards the bottom of the case.

But I don't. Nor do I have an airbrush to draw one then make it look good. oh well. I geuss simplistic it will stay.

Except from the Nukes on each side to open the box it looks familiar:

Not that it's a bad thing because the UT Collecto's edition looks cool (if only it was a *real* tin box - not only 3 sides with paper glued to it ).

I think a DNF collector's edition in a solid box would be cool

I have never seen that! Now I want a DVD player and that! I have the CD-rom set. So until now haven't seen a good enough reason to go DVD. I also heard the editor was better on the DVD and since I make maps, that just makes it all the nicer.

Why should the editor on the DVD be any different from the Discs set?
The diference between the 2 editions is:
- DVD instead of 6 Discs (I don't see why anyone would rather buy CDs anyways)
- A bbonus DVD with several hours of video tutorials on Level-editing, modelling, scripting etc.
- a Logitech Headset

You didn't even know that one existed? hm....
Good luck in finding one of these. This was the limited edition. I'm not sure about how many of those are still eround.
well ... you'll probably be able to find one. But I'm not sure on how easy.

Allready found one.

And the editor is supposed to be the same one as used by Epic to make the game. It does seem a little different. Though I don't know yet if I would say better.

As to why I don't buy games on DVD's normally:

-DVD players are slower then CD-roms.

-DVD lasers burn out easier.

-Most games in my area come out first on CD.

-CD's are a well established format and not going anywhere soon.

-DVD's are a test format and will be obsolete soon as the market is shifting towards blue ray.

-When Your unemployed you buy whats cheaper.

-I have yet to find a DVD drive that can come close to holding a candle to my 75x CD-rom drive.

And finaly.

-I don't like all the pushy/rude DVD fans out there trying to shove DVD in my face.

Yeah DVD is newer. But that dosn't make it better. It's only redeeming factor at the moment, is it's storage capacity.

I fully expected this. Some DVD fanatic was bound to get there feathers ruffled and post some sort of a "retort".

Frankly your welcome to think what you wan't I live in a free country where everyone has freedom of speech and the right to there own opinion. But I am not going to base my opinion off yours I base mine off egineering tech docs, benchmarks, maket analysis, and feild performance.

I am not going into a rebuttle of your opinion cause frankly this thread has been hijacked way more then it should have been.

So back to the point truely at hand. Does anyone have more case design ideas?

If you have an idea. But don't feel you have the artistic skill to make it. You can PM me the idea (that is if you feel I have the artistic skill to do enough justice to your masterpeice) I will be glad to make it for you or simply help you make it. All creative credit will be yours.

But what you posted isn't facts, they aren't even true nor accurate. You posted personal opinions.
And because of me opposing what you said makes me a DVD fanatic?

Some of what I said was opinion some of what I said was fact.
If you wish to argue this I will. In general messages or the harware thread.

I realized that I hadn't covered the actual cd. So here it is in all it's unraging glory.

A CD design by anyone may be thuroughly pointless if they are going with electronic delivery. Of course if thats the case I won't be buying it. I am just to stingy to buy a something that I don't get a pyhsical product for, it grates against every fiber of my being.

Regardless of whether they make a hard release of the game or not I see know harm in wasting a 1/2hour to make/post this idea for a cd that matches my case design. Which may also be thuroughly pointless.

Oh well had fun doing it.

well thanx I am glad people like it and the whole idea.

If they do put out hard copies, and if they do go with an idea based off this design; once it comes out and I buy me a copy (which would be the very instant I have the money) I am gonna drive the 60 miles over to their offices in plano and see if I can get them to autograph it.

If they do release hard copies but not ones that are even influenced by my idea (most likely that it won't be) I will still buy it the instant I have money but I won't be bothering them for autographs. I rather hate driving through Dallas.

I have 2 questions for 3dr.

1: Presuming you did use some variation of my box idea (I am not making that assumption never fear)and I showed up to get your autographs, there wouldn't some guy with a rubberglove waiting for me? 'Cause I don't want an autograph that bad.

2: What would be a good topic for another one of these design a box or ad type of threads? I am board.
