ProAsm uses Watcom, but the point TerminX is making is that MSVC compiles have a bug where the roaming sound effects of enemies don't play properly and you end up with an avalanche of pain sounds instead.

Re: Wanton Destruction for Shadow Warrior Released
Just played through it - the normal WD exe had an option when you started it that let you choose between sp and dm, but ofcourse you won't get that when you use jfsw. Reason I'm bringing this up is because some levels had rooms that were clearly layed out to have a boss fight of some sort, but they bosses were never there.

Apart from that weird stuff the levels were fantastic ofcourse. I've played three of them before though, I never knew they were from WD.

haha... well I was working under the assumption that most people who are interested in this would have nabbed the files when I released the ones I made a few months ago.

It's more like The Titanic. You know what's going to happen at the end... you just don't know what you're going to see happen when you get there! Muah!

As far as I know all of that content was released with the actual addon.

Still trying to find my SW CD in this mess I have here. Damnit I want to PLAY it already.

How is it with the original SW.exe? VDMSound has never let me down, and though I like the JFSW port, I want to play the original WD first.

For now I think you'll get the best "gameplay" results from the original. Some things won't work in JFSW just yet.

I just got done playing all the way through (though I don't think I found either of the secret levels). There are two primary problems I ran into:

- On the airplane level, when it does the ending sequence I crash if I'm in 16/32bpp mode. Going back down to 8bpp seemed to let me continue.

- Two levels where bosses should have been never spawned them. This was the offices level (right before the airplane level) and the rooftops level at the very end. You can cheat of course to progress (for the rooftops you just need to noclip into a couple of hidden cubby holes that would open up when you killed the boss to pick up the keys)... but you won't be able to kill the final boss at the end and have the game show the ending sequence.

I don't know if the ending sequence works in JFSW yet (see above) but I'm pretty sure it should work in normal SW.

A couple of the levels make heavy use of fog, so if you want to see how they are supposed to look you gotta run in 8bpp mode for now.

I didn't see either of the new anime girls Sunstorm supposedly added to it, but they might have been in secret areas or something.

As soon as someone is able to put together a 100% solid version of it that's easily distributable and playable with JFSW I'll gladly host it on my page.

Damnit. VDMSound isn't working properly, and I followed the steps at the BuildXP site to the letter. It works on my other computer like a charm, but I keep getting MASSIVE stuttering that makes the game unplayable.

Well... the first level looks very nice. I look forward to actually playing WD once I get VDMSound to cooperate.

Put together an older DOS only computer and install it on that as I have.

DOSBOX may run it, I haven't tried it yet.

I did a look at the art in editart.

There is only one anime girl replaced:
The girl in red swimsuit (Tiles 4594 - 4597)
wears now a bureau/secretary dress.

Nothing else.

I don't know, where she is in the levels.

it's good but apart from what everyone said, i don't like the replacement of the classic ninja to the one in the suit (hard to tell the palette swaps, lol) and that old guy with the head. and it's a bit overkill on the items, too much!!!

and what's with the bosses?

hey charlie, please tell more about such addons development, like cryptic passage, and stuff.

P4 2.8 ghz, 512 MB RAM, ATI Radeon 9600.

Or on my other computer, a P4 1.8 ghz, 256 MB RAM, 32 MB onboard graphics card.

And I'm not just talking about Shadow Warrior - even Commander Keen 1, Wolf 3-D, or anything else.

There's probably some hidden setting somewhere that I haven't found.

I'd rather get it to work with VDMS, though, but it's even slower there on this computer. (It'll most likely work on my other computer.)

Try running cli2nop.exe on your original sw.exe &
wantan.dat. the command is:

cli2nop.exe -p sw.exe

&

cli2nop.exe -p wantan.dat

both should report '60 occurrances'. Try running sw again,
hopefully your stutter will be gone, see attachment...

I don't think you can without cheating. A boss is supposed to appear there, but it never shows up.

Bull. Installs on XP just fine. If you really want them, I think you can open the thing in any archive utility which supports zips though.

Yes it is. Anyways, you missed the point: open the exe using your favorite zip handling application and extract the files. It's not rocket science. Also, I'm going to have to ask that you stop spreading disinformation (like saying the installer doesn't work on XP -- it works just fine).

I have to agree with TX, it most certainly does work. I'm the one that put the archive together you downloaded. My test machine for this before I released it was Windows XP. It absolutely most definitely works there.
