I have read the whole thread, I just didn't read anywhere you saying "registered downloaded games only." I mean, unless you meant by this statement, "The complete list of stuff that will be available for sale through the new 3D Realms store site update," but again, the word update is in there, so it leaves that thought that perhaps the old inventory will still be available, or other inventory in the future, etc.

But anyway, that wasn't the main purpose of my post, only a thought... This is much more important to me.. "..one huge downside for me, I was really hoping when the time came for these games to be remastered, that Duke/SW/ROTT/etc would have newly implemented multiplayer options (i.e. like DUKE on XBL via servers, so sick).. I mean, don't get me wrong, there are a few various online launchers for duke out there (haven't seen any for SW or ROTT), but there are too many people that don't know how to use them/configure them, so it's kind of a hassle. If new multiplayer implementation took place in the remastered versions, I really think there would be A LOT more people playing online, as seen with Duke on XBL, etc..."

I just got a copy of Duke Nukem 3D and Redneck Rampage Collection at GOG.com.
Rampage has an image file of the music from the cd. And dosbox mounts the image
cd when the game starts. It's the best. All Shortcuts show up in Vista game Explorer.
I'll get Shadow Warrior and maybe ROTT when the store opens.

Wait... didn't you say that you got the Redneck Rampage collection? Does that include the Redneck Deer Huntin'? My uncle would love to play that...

I own Atomic Edition and Manhattan project from gog.com already, but I will buy them again from 3DR besides a copule extra to help George and hopefully with enough purchases, he will have the money to kick start back DNF and finish it. And who knows, I can even download DNF from the site. A 6 to 7 GB download is not much these days .

what sets apogee and id apart of the rest of the pack for me was the fact that they still sold a large section of the titles sold in the last decade. even if they would not work on modern computers. most retail companies would vault stuff but with the big push in laptop gaming i think we will see mor ms-dos apps return to market.

Deer Hunter is not part of the rampage collection. It is a redneck rampage licenced game, but is not part of the redneck rampage "game".

The regnow service offers an addtl charge for extended download or osmething like that. Although why anyone would need it is a mystery to me. Download the file, burn to a blank CD, done.

I don't know - I didn't set up the store, I just built the downloads. Besides, how hard is it to back it up yourself? Takes two minutes after you download. I don't see what the big deal is, really.

Another option is to offer the CD Version of Shadow Warrior simply as an IMAGE.file for download at the online store. You can simply copy the IMAGE.file back on a blank CD and got the original CD Version of the game.

I think this makes more sense and will solve the problem.

Why don't do it this way?

Because your average Joe Q public won't know what to do with an image file. It was dismissed as being to difficult. It might not be too difficult for people reading this thread, but for everyone else, yeah it is. That is the target. The wider customer base, not the smallest minority who might know how to deal with something like that.

Probably not everyone can handle this or have the knowlegde how to deal with that. Otherwise it would be a great idea.
But I also think that the "wider customer base" don't care for old DOS games than the smallest minority so I think the people here can handle this.

I know I asked this before, but will there be a "Complete Catalogue" discount if you bought all the games in the online store? I literally have the money in my PayPal right now, but $175 for all of them is too much, but I do want a "complete anthology" sorta thing. Plus,. I don't want to get burned if I do buy them and a package deal comes up later.

And if I bought all of them at once and requested the $12.95 "high quality" backup CD, what type of CD is it exactly? Is it a professional silver-backed one with 3D Realms logos on the front? That would be super cool.

I don't work there anymore. If there was going to be one launched with the store, I probably would have been instructed to make one. I was not. But I can't vouch for what George will do going forward.

Doubt it. That service is provided by Regnow. They'd probably just burn them to a CD for you, where you can do it yourself now for a LOT cheaper.

If the wider customer base didn't care, and it was just the people here, we wouldn't sell any quantity at all. You're overestimating the percentage of people who visit from these forums and generally know what's going on. That is *NOT* the larger percentage. The number of people who could deal with that is not worth the hassle it would cause in the flood of "What do I do with THAT?" emails. There won't be an a disc image.

^ Yes, but like has been suggested a while earlier, the image can be automatically mounted in DOSBox by means of a custom .conf file (using the IMGMOUNT command). Which would mean that the user doesn't even need to be aware of it's existence.

I don't mean to press the issue, by the way. Just trying to be helpful.

You're talking about something different. The discussion at hand now is not the CD image for the audio. It's an image file for people to burn their own CD's. That is not going to happen.
