As with NW, could a prop modeler please make the following: high-quality sandals, sunglasses (one lens (Cycloid), two lenses (Pig Cop), and three lenses (Octabrain), a snorkel face mask, and an inner tube flotation device.

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
I fixed a major boo-boo in the readme. It still linked to the NWHRP thread instead of this one.
v1.0 was a rush job, but it has all been fixed (I hope). Quote:

I plan to release a new version, if everything goes well, on the winter solstice, Dec. 21. We will be halfway to June, and therefore summer!

There was one, called like "Shark's Cove" by a guy. He made a couple more maps for his episode, search the forums.

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
Super happy progress, all thanks to our resident
Caribbean is just begging for enhanced stuff, like the readdition of the expander ring and a non-cheesy looking beach ball. As a result, I have decided to stop worrying about JFDuke3D and Duke3DW support and just improve it. (Voodoo Doll from Blood, anyone?) TerminX, what's the DEF syntax for the 8-bit art replacement? |

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
OMG! this is one of my favorite addons for Duke 3D (The other being the Gate) LAB has been begging for a HRP for a while now.
There should also be a HRP of The Gate, but there is a lot of new art there so it would take a while, I cannot code to save my life lol so I could not do it. It is probably considered a cult classic since alot of people liked it whereas alot of people didn't. Anyways, this HRP is looking great so far, I can't wait |

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
Is The Gate even an official addon, or just a TC? I think it was done by the same people who made Twin Dragon for SW (Level Infinity).
Spoiler: --- Anyway, back on topic. If there are any submissions that you would like to make for the next version (for either addon HRP), they must be completed and submitted to me by 19:00 CST (GMT-6) on Friday the 19th. The Caribbean user maps I referenced above were done by HangNail. The episode is called Shark's Cove. I have contacted him with the request that he reupload it so that I could add VacaHRP support to it. I have engineered the addon CON files to be better suited to mods. The one that is used with the /x parameter (VacaEDuke.con and NWEDuke.con) simply have an include parameter to link to the normal root CON files. In this way, user episodes and maps can modify the contents, without be rereleased every time there is a new version, and without requiring that an old version be used. |

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
For the spoiler bit,
Could always use the models from that Starship Troopers game? I own it but I can't find the CD/DVD? now, plus it never worked in my drive for some odd reason and I had to install it using another computer drive on the network.

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
I don't think The Gate was a complete TC. I reckon it is sorta in the middle of Addon and TC. It has alot of new art and a new weapon and enemy which would pull it towards TC, yet the core gameplay is no different from Duke 3D.
As for a SST TC HRP, I wouldn't mind it. Starship Troopers was probably THE greatest Duke 3D ever created (Although DTA is giving some worthy competition ) As for the whole copyright argument that has sprung up, everyone is taking copyrighted material for their TC. The Commander is taking Grand Theft Auto. As long as no profit is made, who really cares? lol |

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
A friend of mine made files for co-op support on SS. I'll do same for 1 or 2 levels of The Gate (E1L1 can't go in boss area more than 1 time, so need teleporter, E2L2 if you don't find code you need teleporter too, ...).

Behold!
VacaHRP v1.5 Instructions: Extract the 7-Zip archive to your EDuke32 directory and run the batch file. Map patching will automatically take place when it is run, if everything works. Do not put anything in autoload. Thanks to Thundik81 for the mirroring. And BIG props for chicken, Mark McWane, and Matéos for the new submissions! I'll put up a list of how much better this version is from the previous one in a couple of days. The place where I'm at has dial-up. |

Another Duke Fan, do you know the "Edit" function ?
Do you have lastest EDuke32, HRP, etc ? Try clean install : EDuke32.exe, DUKE3D.GRP, VACATION.GRP, autoload with HRP files and VacaHRP : it will run.

Sorry, I messed up the batch file trying to get Linux to work.
Remember, do not add VacaHRP to autoload. |

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
Mirror link added on my site. Note that I added the corrected batch file to the pack. Additionally, I have used a PNG optimizing tool for improved image compression, reducing filesize by more than 2MB.

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
Will Linux users see if my addon packs work, please?
NightFright: What tool did you use? This is what I use: Code:
for %i in (*.png) do pngout.exe "%i" /f5 /v /y Another Duke Fan: There is a VacaEDuke.con in the vacation_hrp.zip file. Extract it, if you need to. Also, make sure you have no vacation/ folder or any Vacation CON, DEF, or MHK files loose in the directory that would override the pack's new contents. Are you using the latest snapshot? Like Matéos said, try a clean install with just the latest EDuke32 snapshot, DUKE3D.GRP, HRP, HRP Update Pack, VacaHRP, and VACA15.SSI (not VACATION.PRG/GRP). The batch file will extract the SSI, and then run your clean install. Do not put anything in autoload.

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
I was using PngOptimizer. It may have a better compression algorithm in specific cases. Besides, it has a nice drag'n'drop feature which I find pretty useful, especially when working in Windows environment, anyway. Link: http://psydk.org/PngOptimizer.php

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
Something else while playing through the game with latest HRP:
Some enemies will slip along the floor after being killed. When you touch them, you kinda nudge them and push them further. They somehow behave like the beachball, perhaps some code got screwed up. I see that in the "extra" folder, the cutscene is available. Is it currently impossible to add this to the game? Plus I think the additional "Doomsday.ogg" in "extra" dir is not required since it already resides in the "music" subdir. Otherwise, the usual things. Maphacks needed and so on. Will see if I can do something about those at some point.

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
Regarding the dead enemies sliding around:
That was no issue with your HRP, it obviously was an EDuke32 bug which TerminX fixed with latest snapshot (Dec 30). |

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
The DOOMSDAY.ogg in the vacation/extra folder is the one Matéos made, which was not used in favor of Mark McWane's rendition.

Why Shark's cove isn't in GRP ? Or in HRP version ?
Never heard something about this episode. Is it good ? What's new in ?

Re: Duke Caribbean: Life's a Beach HRP (VacaHRP)
you should be able to load vacation hrp with Shark's cove.
Shark's cove doesn't include any new art, so its hrp compatible. |
