Capcom Unity Card - Stay far away!
I'm sure a few people here heard of it.
Over at Cheap Ass Gamer, goomba478 got one and tells about his experience with it.

But it gets better. The bank calls him personally saying that those fees were a mistake and/or not authorized.
And the funny part of it is that in the comments section people are saying what a good job the bank is doing by dropping most of the fees. I swear, put a videogame character on something and people can't smell the bullsh*t. First of all, banks don't release anything to their clients without meticulously going every fine detail. And even if they did, I wouldn't want to deal with that bank, because if they can't handle their own product, I'm not going to let them touch my savings.

Um, the majority of those fees sound pretty standard. Obviously a mistake was made in terms of activation (the guy was an idiot for trying to use it "15 times") and it was wrong for him to be charged, but mistakes do happen. Are debit cards not common in the US or something? Being charged to use your PIN rather than signing for a transaction sounds like an absolute joke, but all the other fees that the account attracts sound like what every debit account attracts in Australia. I know that there's a lot of mistrust for banks in the US these days but in this case I'm pretty much siding with them.

I live in Canada.

Activation fee, 10 bucks? Dormancy fee, 5 bucks? Monthly maintenance fee, 5 bucks?
Paying for customer assistance? Closing the account, 10 bucks? Pay to transfer money to and from the card?

C'mon, that's ludicrous.

Ok, let me put it this way. Why would I get this card over a regular debit card/credit card?

The only deductions I have on my card are for things I bought. And ... maybe some overdrafts, whatever. But thanks for the heads up, if I ever go to Australia, I'll remember not to get a debit card.

Activation fee: There are plenty of accounts around that cost money to set up.
Dormancy fee: Sucks, but why would you have a debit card for an account you used less than once in three months anyway?
Monthly fee: That's totally standard, and I'd be surprised if it wasn't standard everywhere in the world.
ATM fees: are a ripoff everywhere in the world
Customer service/closing account fee: I'll give you that one.

Sure it may not be a great deal, but hardly worth the histrionics of this and the linked thread.

Most activation fees are load of crap. This isn't any different. It's not like you pay a one time fee then it's fair game. You pay the activation fee AND a fee for everything else consistently. So what's the point of paying an activation fee? Your paying regardless.

That's none of their concern how little you use it. You shouldn't have to pay for something because you under use it. And besides you have to pay a fee for any transactions with the card. If anything, it discourages you from using it. Which is all smiles for them because they get money either way.

I have a debit card and credit card with my bank.
I can use my debit 15 times at any location that isn't my bank or one of it's ATMs without being charge a fee. Anything over that, I have to pay like 2 bucks per transaction.
I don't get charged for using my CC (except for 2 bucks every so often for a security fee), but I do have 18% interest on it.

You could be use to that down under, but they're plan is absolutely crazy. It offers no additional services over a regular debit or credit card.

Sounds like a darwin award to me. People who randomly sign up for credit cards because they "look cool" pretty much get what they deserve. Maybe he should have stuck with his standard bank instead.
