Re: The Prey 2 Discussion thread
I had an Idea for Spirit walk when you die.
If you go off my Earlier idea of the silver cord (eg: When you walk around in Spirit walk you see a silvery line from you to your body. Spirit walking enemies can cut this, forcing you to have to manually walk to your body rather than pressing the spirit walk key again) In reality, if you follow much of the occult, its said when your silver cord is cut, that means your spirit and your body are no longer one, your body IS dead, end of story. How ever, I had a thought that when you go to the spirit world you must battle your fallen enemies as ghosts (if you have not killed anyone, you don't have spirits to shoot) to reform this silver cord. and you have a minimum of a minute to fully reforge the Cord, or you end up having to do the level all over again. Also, as for the weapons, I understand the use of Tommy's bow in spirit form. Its the Weapon of his spirit, a Symbol of himself. I do think though the Bow could evolve a bit, even if its later in the game. It could be like the UT04 Trident barreled Rocket launcher (loads three Projectiles and fires) I too do like the idea of possession. it could also be an important part of the story too! Tommy Ends up being imprisoned, and unable to escape his cell, namely because his silver cord has been cut by some evil bastard and he must find a way to not only free his body, but enter it before 10 minutes, or he gets to restart the level all over again!? One way to stop the timer is to use Possession.

Idea for Prey 2 Teaser Trailer
When I was playing though Prey, and Decided to see if i could perform some sort of epic maneuver of some kind, and I did. I thought would explain it by telling you lot about this idea would be cool to include in a teaser Trailer.
Ok... now imagine: Our Familiar Cherokee Protagonist Tommy stands before a porthole of some kind, entering it dramatically before hand reloading his gun. As he walks though it another porthole opens with some highly detailed underling enemy (think something like the hunters) with a gun. There is a bit of Distances Between tommy and the enemy, who has his gun ready first. Rather than taking cover Tommy charges at his foe as he fires his gun. You see the bullets in slowmo zooming towards Tommy, but rather than getting shot, his Spirit comes froth from his body, and the bullets disintegrate as his spirit continues the charge and his body dose the floaty thing. He draws his bow, and cracks off an arrow though his foes heart, quickly returning back to his body, as another enemy goes for an attack he takes aim faster than the enemy can. he fights a few more enemies. Once he has killed the small attack party, he starts walking, and then the Title PREY 2! pops up. What do you think?

Prey feedback, hope prey 2 will improve that !
well one thin first, i'm a game player over 15 years now and also am reviewing them for myself and with my bro, friends etc. + on a neutral aspect as possible.
here are my points which i think make this game very disappointing, i know late but well i didnt get into playing it before just the demo when it was released. - the interactivity from the beginning is the only real part of interactivity - weapons look nice but some weapons feel generic also most enemies - levels are really small and mostly short - overall game is really damn short ! - the wall walk, gravity, and flying minispace ship ideas are great but you use them a few times and everything feels too damn linear i really am somehow greatly disappointed, it's a good game, but i think i would give it about 7,5 - 7,8 points for some great scenes (opening bar scene !). overall the game has some good points but falls short in gameplay length, story, linearity and generic enemies/weapons. |

I agree with most parts of caline review but overlooking the flaws (with which you have to do with a lot of games) it was just a plain and simple run and gun game. I enjoyed it but i have to wait a while to play it again.

I didn't mind it but the linearity is a bit of a bore but the overall gameplay experience is too be expected from most fps' these days, even halo 3 was a bit generic I thought.

Read my review there (along with one other person). SP to me was pretty fun. I like the puzzles. I like wondering "what are they going to throw at me next?", but like others said, the weapons weren't implemented well. I found myself using (and needing) only a small handful, so it felt like the other guns (and fire modes) where just put in for the illusion of weapon count, choice, and preference. I think what made Prey fall flat was mostly MP game play. Or as Joe would say, the lack of sustained staying power. |

Re: Prey feedback, hope prey 2 will improve that !
i think too many developers focus on the graphics and console games. i dunno but why am i enjoying more older games like duke 3d, doom, serious sam, sin1, soldier of fortune ?
i think these games are simple but somehoe have a great weapon feeling, cool enemies, good level structure, general great ego shooter feeling and no half parts. what can i do with half baked stuff like the teleportation, flying ship or gravity elements when they are not fully integrated and also could have been left out. i think if you want to put such elements in you should really make such a game not a run and gun shooter but also a bit more complicated with more puzzles and better level design. i also would have preferred if you wouldnt have to hang around at the alien space ship. ahh the spirit walk was also really bad integrated, it was ok but why all these hints? why did my eagle attack 1 of 2 enemies when there were only 3-4 at a time? i think about 5-10 enemies at the same time in older games which gave you more of a feel that they are hunting you or you are hunting them ![]() MP part is fun for sure, it wasnt prey's only fault that nobody plays them. that'S why i gave this game a higher score than my intention was. i think developers/publishers should see that their products lack quality, even halo 3 got great scores, why do we have such half hearted games? because most gamers just say "ok, next one please, this was ok". |

Re: The Prey 2 Discussion thread
Half-Life 2 still has music like that. Orchestrated music fit perfectly with this game because it was like a cinematic experience. Games like Quake and Doom are more run and gun shooters that electronic music fits well in. this game was pretty open (to a point)and original with movie-like qualities, which is why the orchestra was perfect.

Re: Prey 2 discussion thread
Quote:
This is like buying a Prius and then complaining that it's not adequate for moving freight. ![]() There really are two different main categories of "first person shooter" players. There are the "I wanna kill people to score points, it makes me cool" type. Sorry to sound pejorative about it but that, personally, is TOTALLY UNINTERESTING to me, and it's uninteresting to me because it just seems dumb. Still, there are LOTS of folks who are really into this. And if that's what you play for, there are lots of good choices for playing that sort of game (even though, except for a few matters of visual style, most of them are pretty much the same thing as far as I'm concerned... ) Then there are the "I want to be in a movie, and to be the star" sort of people. I'm one of those. I want my game playing to be the experience of something that feels utterly immersive and has a POINT to it. Games like "System Shock" and "Thief" and "Half-Life" and so forth sum this up fairly well. Yes, you may be shooting a lot of bad guys, but there's still a plot that really draws you in and makes you feel like there's something important happening around you and you're at the center of it all. The poster of the quoted item, above, bought the wrong game... it's as simple as that. If he feels "cheated" that he paid too much for a game that doesn't do what he wanted it to do, well... all that demonstrates is that he didn't do his due diligence in evaluating before buying. On the other hand, I just played through the game (completed it yesterday). Yes, I bought it a couple of months back, but I have a life that precludes my being able to sit down for days on end playing games. ![]() My take? I enjoyed it immensely. There were a few minor "quirks" that irritated me (this is the first game I've ever had to turn V-Sync ON for... I was getting horrific "tearing" and couldn't figure out why... V-Sync "fixed" that... but I've never seen that need before, go figure!) and I found that there were bits in the game that were ... well, FAR from obvious (the CUBE for instance stumped me and I had to resort to a "walkthrough" to figure out what the hell I was supposed to be doing! And same thing with the "mother box" near the end. Damned hard to figure out, and no clues that I caught to give me a HINT at how to get past that! Just a matter of replay-replay-replay ad nausium 'til you accidentally see something happen, i guess!) ![]() One thing I DID like was the ability to "recover from death." This is the first game I've played in years where I didn't feel the need to "quicksave" all the time. It was innovative and it helped me get past some otherwise challenging points without being drawn out of the story like hitting "quick restore" would have done! Anything that keeps my head "in the game" is a good thing, since I'm there imagining that I'm living in this world. I liked how the game made elements of the way-too-dark, way too claustrophobic Doom3 gameplay into "in jokes." There were some huge, impressive vistas in this game, and visibility was good overall (I loved the "it's so dark in here, I feel doomed!" bit!) I wasn't very fond of Tommy as a character... granted... but I "got" the fact that he was on a STORY ARC and he started off as a bit "whiny" in order to give him a direction to grow. The main issue I had was that his growth wasn't as well-established as his "whininess" was in the beginning. Well, that's something that the sequel can deal with. Overall... I'm happy with this game, and it was definitely worth the ~$40 I paid for it (I never buy games when they're first released... always wait for patches and reviews!) And since I have ZERO interest in "online multiplayer" gameplay, well... I couldn't care less if it didn't come with "QuakeWars" or "Unreal Tournament" or "Team Fortress" in the same box! ![]() |

Re: The Prey 2 Discussion thread
-more spirit weapons, I've already said that.
-The spirit cord idea is too hard the way it is. Try this: when the cord is cut, you go back to your body with absolutly no spirit energy. -Now... this cord will have to be coded into the engine, and the AI must interact with this cord. If the AI does not notice it and it hits the cord and continues walking, the cord must have some durability. Eventually the cord will be pulled so tight that it must break. The cord breaking makes sound, telling enemy AI that something is here. -More "places where you die and have to get back to body" levels. In the first game I think I only noticed two or three... -Layer these "places where you die and have to get back to body" levels for extra difficulty. -Remember before the big boss, you had to use the vehicle that did something to pores in a sphere? Let's have more of that. -STORY: I remember hearing that there were many huge biological spheres like the one Tommy defeated... Well, there might be a superworld that Tomy could fight on. -I think that Tommy has nothing to fight for. I propose a new character, like a Sheapard or Barney, that views the movements of Tommy as this new character tries to survive himself, like S or B playing through Black Mesa and occasionally finding Gordon. |

Well, we knew PREY 2 was coming... given the ending of the first game (given people watched after the credits). And I figured we would at least get some info on it this year.
I hope Human Head returns to develop... I would be pretty sad if they got somebody else.

id Software proposed it without licensee fee, but only with 8~10% royalty. It's just a rumor. Don't believe this too much.
