Some have asked the question whether the screenshots are pre-rendered or realtime.

All screenshots are realtime. We never do pre-rendered.

^It's not a new game engine Scorpian. They might have beefed it up for Max Payne 2, but people from Remedy has said before on these boards that they're still using the same one from MP1.

[edit]I don't know why, but because of Max's age in his face it, his look kind of reminds me of Humphrey Bogart. One of my favorite actors by the way. [/edit]

Looks ok, but it won't be half as good with this new face and most probably new voice for Max.
With some luck they might come to their senses and use the original face of Max Payne and the voice, any other than that and it simply isnt going to be Max Payne.

Hmmm, that motion blur effect looks nice, I wonder if they'll be any more eye candy changes for bullet-time (I assume the blur occurs when you go into BT...)

Damn! That was good!!!!

On the Sam Lake thingy, it could be dissapointing at first but we would soon get used to it and like it, when first saw max payne 1 I thought the guy looked quirky but I became used to it after some time....

Hmm.....I wonder what is Baskinator's reaction.....

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I agree with Sam being the better Max. But alas theirs nothing that can be done about it (besides mods after its release). The engine does look very good even through some of the heavy compression on the images.. which is very impressive. This will be a great game.

And speaking of Dead To Rights - it's coming to PC in fall. As we're going to get MP2 same fall, I would call that quite bad timing. Even MP1 beated it in almost all areas.

The game does look good I have to agree and I'm sure the story will also be very good. But it won't, in my opinion, ever beat the first one simply because it's not the same face or the same voice. For me the REAL Max Payne has already fallen.

Look at the facial features. He really does look the same, just a little older and with a little more weight.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Finally someone asks!

Is eye candy everything in a game? No. But it seems to be everything people get excited about. I mean...there's a 2-page thread and only ONE person asks about gameplay and story...

Common guys, graphics will get better and better with every new game released, who cares? What about gameplay and story? When will developers start to improve these? Perhaps when you get excited about gameplay features and story, not about eye candy anymore.

Let's not kid ourselves. The new Max does NOT look like an older version of the first Max. Besides a somewhat similar haircut, the two look completely different. That side-by-side comparison proves it.

If Remedy was attempting merely an aged Max, they missed the mark completely. Not that I'm complaining-- if they have a good reason for the change, then I'm fine with it.

I know you guys, Remdey i mean of course, are very hush-hush about what's going on, and probably for more then just to build excitement among the masses. But, please forgive me for asking, what kind of lighting system *may* be used. I'm not asking for a concrete answer or anything, but as long as you don't lie any answer will be accepted :-) Cheers guys.

By the looks of the shots the lighting looks the same. There are so many other questions about max though. Will he do some Kung Fu? Will the characters have facial animation? Will there be any new moves? Can you shoot in the air? Ok I think I'll stop now.

You could shoot in the air in the first game. All you have to do is shoot at a guy and not hit him.

LOL FMJ!!!

I was thinking. If we had te new max in mp 1 and the old max in mp 2 we would be whining at how we want our old max back.. It is bound to happen, people don't want change.

So watch it.... You could be contradicting yourself in an alternate reality. (the one where you want the max from mp2 back into MP2 where the Old max used to be? I NEED ASPIRINE!!!!!!!!!!)

Max Payne has the Poll removed from his butt and now everyone is in an uproar . They could re-insert the poll but his expression would be even more anal than it was in the past

Perhaps if they just tacked on a goatee to the old Max Payne everyone would be happy.

It'd be pretty freaking amazing, considering that Max's jacket's movements in the first game still look incredibly good and it was only hand-animated!

Re: Screenshots of Max Payne 2!
I still don't even see WHY Remedy would have abandoned Sam Lake. I felt he did a fantasic job voice acting and providing the model for Max Payne.

Like others have said, he looks like a rendered Pierce Brosnan. I don't even think I'll play the game until someone mods in Sam Lake Don't get me wrong, the game looks incredible, but playing Max Payne w/o Sam is like watching Van Damme playing the T-800. Franchise names need familiar faces. I wouldn't have minded some photoshopping to make Sam appear "older." Replacing him is just ... wrong looking.

Anyways, I'm still buying this game the moment it comes out, but waiting for a Sam Lake mod
