Re: [MP1] I Know Kung Fu (TRW kung fu released)
We've intentionally designed the wallrun in like this, where if you don't have a good foot-hold on the wall then Neo will sort of "slip off" of it. It's to prevent you from keeping on running in mid-air if you reach the end of a wall, or if you turn away from the wall too far. But you're right in that the hit detection is not always spot-on to trigger the wallruns. We've come to live with the fact that the engine sometimes just doesn't want to do what we tell it to, especially during intense firefights and such - or maybe because we're doing things to the engine that were never supposed to be done

Can I wallrun say more than 2 sec? I mean is it made that way or am I a n00b who's not being able to perform it?

Re: [MP1] I Know Kung Fu (TRW kung fu released)
Ya, you definately should be able to. But it might be a little confusing, because there are 2 different types of wallrun now. There's the "wall jump" kind, as you're familiar with from Kung Fu 3, where doing a forward jump into a wall makes you flip or kick off of it; then there's the new "true wall running" where you have to do a shootdodge into a wall. Maybe pulling off this true wall running is a bit confusing, so an easy way to do it is to first run directly at a wall, then do a shootdodge when you're touching the wall. As long as you hold down the forward button (or any direction for that matter) you will continue running on the wall. After you start running you can turn in different directions to run along the wall in different ways. As long as you keep a good foot-hold on the wall you won't slip off of it. You'll flip off the wall after a certain amount of steps or if you just release the direction button.

We're still working on it a bit to make it less confusing, but hope this helps!

AHH YESSS! I get it now . I was doing the old wallrun before.

I just played it and have to say that the wallrun is something I never had imagined would be possible to mod in a game like Max Payne. Whoever did this (must be Ken ofcourse) is a genious. It was so polished that I felt all the way about the ladder function in the Quake3 and Doom3 engine. "No less" trust me.

/my salute.

okay kenneth, thanks for the info!

well, talking about the kung fu system: i've managed to kick people's ass in the dojo in no time! really, kung fu as-is is something really awesome and, most of all, user friendly... i think this is a big plus!

guys, keep the good work!

Re: [MP1] I Know Kung Fu (TRW kung fu released)
Hey this is cool although I liked the moves in kf3 or katana more ( simpler kicks and jabs instead of doing stuff in the air) this is still cool I like the wallrun shooting alot . Some moves like the punch finisher are really cool others are abit less ( need some touch ups). But the wallrun system is really good.

Re: [MP1] I Know Kung Fu (TRW kung fu released)
the only move that i dislike is the backward cartwheel..
the one that you can do crouching and jumping..

i think you should put a move that you use when you are surrounded... better a series of automatic jabs-kicks-dodges in all directions... that would be cool!

better if that move uses the same "random" order of the normal moves...

i think this definitely takes the cake.

Just thought of dropping an information .... Ghast has been modding in the MP2 scene from the quite begining. So he knows all those basic things.

I hope I'm not being rude . It's just that he might laugh out in his mind reading your post .... eh Ghast?

BTW, it doesn't lock up in my system either. Maybe there's a few incompatibility factor .... still.

in fact, you are a bit rude

no problem anyway, my stupid pc question comes from remindings of episodes that happened to people really good at using PC (in general)... like one of my friends, a programmer i won't bother you all with his story..
it's better for you

however, ghast, sorry. (but stop laughing )

"teh bugfree application" has not been invented yet, so chances are pretty high that 1 out of 100 people will run into problems.
I remember the freezing problem of KungFu back in the days of version 3. Might still occur in certain situations.

Hey folks, it's been a while; how's the community doing?

It's been ages in fact, so here's some screenshots from the mod I took a while back. There's a few glaring mistakes you'll hopefully overlook, but I hope you find some of these interesting. The last one is a rendered composition btw - used for some loading screens.

You may have seen some of this material before, because I took them earlier in the year and never got around to releasing them. Very sorry about this, but university is working me to bone these days.

I'm still hoping to get this out in some shape or form this year, so wish me luck. For now, the demo is still available here. The mod has changed a bit since that version, but it's still quite playable.

TRW to be released before the end of the year? That phrase sounds oddly familiar to me. Hope you're able to do it this year
Nah, wish you good luck with it. I still got good ol' MP1 installed here and am sure looking forward to giving this a try.

Oh and those pictures look cool as hell. Im especially in love with that neo vs. smith at the subway station fight. Looks extremely true to the movie. I assume it's used as a cutscene? Anyways, good stuff.

Yeah, it's something of a tradition.

Glad you liked the screens though -- I know Suprakarma worked hard as hell on that subway map. You're right, the aerial dual with Smith is a cutscene, you can see a low-quality version of it here:

http://video.google.com/videosearch?...22max+payne%22

The rest is playable.

Yeah, my email is the same as ever. Actually, I sent you an email earlier today -- but maybe I got the wrong address though. Would be great to catch up.

As for Ken, I think he's got a job with a game company developing mobile phone games -- seemed to be enjoying it last time I spoke (which was a while ago).

University is taking up most of my time, although I'm also helping out at the offical Alan Wake forum too.

Re: [MP1] I Know Kung Fu (TRW kung fu released)
^Yeah I still remember that first email you sent me, way back when.

Personally when it comes to experimental development, like kung fu etc, I prefer Mp1. I guess it's just simpler. What's been fun with this mod is how developing moves and new features is a lot like the concept of the Matrix -- there are rules: some can be bent; others can be broken.

That said, I saw a video of Aztec's SFII mod, and I was seriously impressed. Not many mods are able to look like an entirely new game, but that one does.

TRW now has a project page at Levels4You: http://maxpayne.levels4you.com/cdc/trw_matrix/index.l4y

There's a page for screenshots, trailers & videos, a dev diary, and some other stuff.

Check it out.

WID usually means that "the developer dont want to discuss ANYTHING about the progress of the mod". So it's kinda self-explainatory.

90%, according to this site:

http://mods.moddb.com/970/the-real-world/

Though I'd be wary, that was last updated 3 years ago.

(So, if it took 1 year to do 90%, and the mod has been in development for 4 years, the percentage of work done is: 360% )

Quote:
WID usually means that "the developer dont want to discuss ANYTHING about the progress of the mod".
Not quite. It means I want to make the best mod possible, and I'll take as long as necessary.

I think the most reliable thing I can say these days is simply that I'm planning to review the state of the mod at around Christmas time. If it's the best it can possibly be (within reason), I'll release it. If I think it could use a few months extra polish, then that's what it'll have to take.

What's holding the mod back is (and damnit, mixuk was right), because it's a film mod, there are specific levels that HAVE to get made to a certain specification, otherwise the mod sucks and you've failed. Since the Matrix is a 'Trilogy', there's three times as much of this stuff to be done, because there are so many key fight scenes.

But to reassure you, there's also a point when, realistically, you've got to call it a night. That's getting very close -- 3-4 years of work is starting to take its toll. I'd like to move on.
