Re: Deleting walls...
I just checked your shots fiercedeity9 - I won't bother commenting the 2D shots, but as for the 3D shots:
Number 1) Too empty and the textures don't look all that good. Add some more things - It seems like a reception, so a little fountain and some plants might look good in it. Also give it a more inviting look (receptions usually don't look all that metallic and dirty) - I suggest getting some white textures in there might help it a bit. Number 2) Where's the lightsource? The vents are too bright. Also I see there's a little vent maze part there - be sure to give the player scuba gear before they enter that pool.

Re: Deleting walls...
I'm back from my holiday..
@ Sang: 1) I haven't finished this map really. I've just started. All I'm doing at the moment is creating some rooms for me to work in. Trust me, when I release the proper map things will look much better. 2) I save shading till the end. And there is Scuba Gear at the entrance to the underwater section. Wouldn't want Duke to suffocate would we. Thanks for the comments I'll bear them in mind when I'm mapping. @ The Commander: I didn't know that, cheers. |

Re: Deleting walls...
Always try to re-load when you have to delete sectors. Sometimes, deleting walls and sectors can corrupt the map (which happened to mine, but I had a backup so everything was fine).

Re: Deleting walls...
I'm beginning to enjoy mapping as a small hobby.. Don't think I'd want to spend hours a day doing it though. Oh and this is my second map. I didn't release my first one. The map FAQ I read says the first one's are usually crappy. It will be released as a level in Episode 3 though.

Yeah I love the auto save, but when it crashes and closes its just heart breaking

Re: Deleting walls...
It's evil. I nearly finished my first underwater thing and it crashed.. I had to start again but I made it better. For some reason, when I try jumping in to my first pool of water, I die. I thought it was maybe because the sectors aren't the same shape/size but they look the same to me.

Re: Deleting walls...
Is your SE7 sprite in the exact same position as the above water and on the floor?

Re: Deleting walls...
I'll 'ave a look.
EDIT: They're in the same place now. When I jump in to the pool the 'Squish' sound plays and the message comes on screen.

Re: Deleting walls...
Without seeing the map, i can't tell you whats wrong.
There has to be a difference between the two! |

Re: Deleting walls...
I think I've solved the problem, I changed the shape and moved the SE's. When I get close to the pool now, Duke crouches. Is there any reason for this? (It's in an open area)
PS. I was so stupid on the first page.. Thanks for the answers guys.

Re: Deleting walls...
2...1...Clicks.... Damn. Thank you. How can I contruct a fountain? Will I have to make it out of sprites? When i used sectors, the floor went all glitchy.

I don't know what you mean, "glitchy", but maybe your using a floor tile number that is blank by mistake.? |

Re: Deleting walls...
Don't mean to post in a non-constructive way, but the diagrams I uploaded where replaced by anime by ImageShack!
So, no one freak out if they don't understand what anime has to do with sector\wall removing, not my fault.

Re: Deleting walls...
Good God, I just read through this thread again. Now I remember why I gave up on mapping! The map files corrupted and I lost them, oh joy. I had grand ideas for this episode but my skills really weren't up to scratch. Been playing some D3D recently so maybe I'll get into it again even though I've forgotten basically everything!
I like how I didn't understand sectors. I messed around with the Source SDK a bit back then so apparently my mind was still working with brushes. :P |

Re: Deleting walls...
Give this tutorial a look; it explains all you need to know and what to do in order to make your own map.

Re: Deleting walls...
I suppose you could think of a Duke map as one big brush and you are just carving out your brushes/sectors.
