Re: Max Payne the movie - Rated R
Max is as Nate and j says not muscular at all. He's a normal cop, probably works out a couple of days a week. But he mainly trusts his guns to speak for him. He seems very ironic, and considering he's got nothing to lose he's a tough grape. For example when he says something rude to a guy with a bat when he's tied to a chair, and then reflects on what he just did, really ironic, black humour, gonna love it...

Re: Max Payne the movie - Rated R
OK, this is going to hurt (in terms of fire related burningness ). I think Mel Gibson would be cool to play Max.
Having watched Payback and having loved his performance and also his role as Martin Riggs in Leathal Weapon 1-4, I think he's a good action star, a good actor and good guy! Only problem - maybe a bit old? maybe too expensive? I agree that pic of Edward Norton looked good as Max but I don't think he'd work somehow. Whoever said MarkyMark Wahlberg is very cool! Just see Boogie Nights for proof of his talent! And, he's been with Chow himself in a HK-style action flick (The Corruptor). In terms of directors, I'd like to see what The Coens would do with Max. They always put a nice spin on old ideas. And they can do action (see Raising Arizona and Miller's Crossing). I'd also love to see how some more 'unsuited' types would handle it - Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia), Brian Singer (although he has some noir experience) and Kevin Smith (I know! He's totally unsuited probably, but I'd just like to see his spin on it!). Sorry for the long/boring post, just some thoughts I had. Hell if it's written by Kevin Smith and Chris McQuarrie and directed by The Coens and Brian Singer and stars King Gibson I'll be stoked! Thanks for reading ! PS Oh yeah, what about Scorsese with DeNiro as Max! /me shoots self |

Re: Max Payne the movie - Rated R
http://maxpayne.godgames.com/07.jpg
And there are other screenshots like this on the old site, where max is looking pumped. When i say beefy or bulky i only say this because i'm going by screenshots of the game, from the remedy guys. I'm not going by the screenshots of the comic book which inspired the game. In the comic book/graphic novel max looks slim built, in the game, he's packing some muscle. Ultimately i'd like to see a movie of the game, and not just a hum-drum no actioner, all thriller which might happen if hollywood decide to use their source material as the comic book. They've got to stylize this game with the slow-mos, the bullets times, the jumps, dodges.. all trademarks of Mr Woo. If they don't add those essential ingredients then i'd rather not watch this movie at all - and those ingredients are brought to life by the remedy boys, in their game. Of course i want the movie to be dark, brooding and intense, just like the game appears to be, but i'd like the movie to retain it's action which is the reason why we're all buying the game MP. And yes, Ed Norton does look like a bad ass posing on the front cover of face magazine, just not the type of bad ass who'd look convincing holding akimbo berattas and jump to and fro. I think i'd start laughing if i'd see that. He's an actor for independant cinema drama, not main stream actioners. As much as i hate to say it, the suggestion of Mel Gibson, another action veteran, makes sense. Guys like him are old school action hereos of the western screen and the fact remains that audiences are comfortable seeing guys like Gibson, WIllis, Van Damme, Arnie, and to a lesser extent Crowe diving around with guns in their hands trying to avenge their loved one, or bring down gangs of thugs and terrorists. I'm not claiming that they are the best actors in the world, but they are seasoned in this genre. Ed's more film noir, without guns. Even Keanu Reeves has Speed under his belt before The Matrix. Ed's done nothing like this before. I don't think Hollywood would risk it. |

Re: Max Payne the movie - Rated R
el mariachi, i think you are mistaken on a few things...
it seems as tho you think max payne is based on a comic book.. remedy drew those graphic novels for this game.. the story, characetrs etc. are 100% original from remedy.... so what you see in the comic book is what remedy wanted.... now also, that screenshot you showed didnt tell me he is bulked up.. how can you tell?? to me it looks like hes wearing a thick cotton t-shirt, a hawaing shirt and a leather jacket.. lets see how skinny you look after putting all those on... and in AHX he was a good action star for a bit... heh now dont start yelling... remember when the black guys were stealing his bronco? he comes out with his gun and starts pumping rounds into them, i thought it was actually quite stylish... and also, i think, in the upcoming movie "The Score" (robert deniro, ed norton - july 13) he may have some action scenes.. not sure tho.... mel gibson is too old. plain and simple he couldnt look like max.. max is 30 years old MAXIMUM... i still think norton or marky mark would be the best choices in terms of acting ability, AND looks so far |

Re: Max Payne the movie - Rated R
I'm sorry I can't post all my thoughts on the same replay but El Mariaci u don't know what the fuk ur talkin about. Ed Norton pulles off a scary, evil white supremisis in AMX. A psychopathic, lying killer in Primal Fear. A lying, cheating, dirty gambeler in Rounders and A alienated, skitzo in Fight Club. Ed Norton can pull Max off with ease, He'd be great.
And whoever said Mel Gibson, fuk he was alright in Payback but not the kind of actor who'd be good in this. I'm sick of him and his glory old war movies I'm still goin with Brad pitt for my second choise becuase he's bad-ass in every movie he makes |

Holywood wouldnt risk it??? WTF are you talking about??
first of all, the city of hollywood doesnt decide what goes into a movie or not.. and also, with norton's wide variety of acting experience (Drama, comedy, semi-action, etc.) and his amazing performances.. i would be 100% certain he could pull of virtually any role... |

Re: Max Payne the movie - Rated R
First off, hi everyone I'm the Predator [Ahnold]GET TO THE CHOPPAH! RUN!![/Ahnold]. Don't worry I'm not going to recommend that Arney play Max, I don't think he would fit the part at all. Hopefully I don't piss off too many people with my first post but here goes.
I can't see Norton in an old-school action movie, and that's really what the Max Payne movie would be at heart, non-stop bloody, violent action. I'm not saying Norton CAN'T play the part, I'm sure he could do it just fine, but I think the role would be better off in the hands of someone with more experience in the genre. I'd like to see someone like Kurt Russell in the role, sure he's getting a bit old but we've all seen what makup can do these days. He certainly has enough experience in action movies, some bad, some good but he can definatly be a bad ass when he wants to. It's too bad Brandon Lee isn't still around, he would be my number 1 pick, IMO he would be fantastic in the role. Anyway, there are a lot of people good for the role, I mean, as much as I love the idea for the game, it's not exactly new material as far as hollywood fare goes. As for a director, of course John Woo would be ideal. I can't believe I'm saying this since I don't like many of his movies but I think Michael Winner could also do a good job with it. Hell, the plot is basically identical to the original Death Wish anyway. A Charles Bronson-esque style might just fit nicely. Anyway those are my oppinions, lots of you had great ideas so I figured I'd add mine. |

Sorry to drag this out, but I had to clarify! Edward Norton, I reckon, would not be a good Max. He is a fantastic actor. Same with Brda Pitt. They're just too 'clean-cut'. If only Mel Gibson was of Leathal Weapon 1 age! Then he'd be ideal! He is a good actor too, IMHO of course I still maintain though, that Wahlberg would be the best for his age. Young, good actor, has done action = ideal! Plus, his music is great ! You know, even though he's getting on a bit, Gabriel Byrne would be good, if only he could lose the accent (which I doubt!!). Anyway, these arguments could go on forever. In the end, someone else with more money/experience/skill will decide all this for us and we'll be forced to take whatever they throw at us! Looking at what the DreadLocked one says above, I have to say I agree, except about Michael Winner. I don't like him At all!
Any-way. I just thought. Stephen Baldwin - from the Usual Suspects. He would be quite good I reckon. He looks a fairly strapping lad and is good at delivering funny quips (Max *does* have some dark humour ). Predator is correct - Brandon Lee would have been great! The Crow is an awesome film! [ 06-20-2001: Message edited by: UnusualSuspect ] |

Nate you do like your own opinion don't you? Wtf do u know about hollywood? lmfao.
Maybe you should take a few of the Ed Norton posters down from off your bedroom wall, and think about a reasonable choice for Max Payne: the action movie. Ed Norton, akimbo berattas doing a face dive into a badguy. LOL@Nate and Shane. however, if Ed's new movie with bobby DeNiro does show him in an all new "action man" light, then i'll retract all these statements and buy myself a few posters of the guy to put on my wall. what do I know about holywood. i live in vancouver... there is always 100% of the time a feature film being filmed here(6th day, romeo must die), not to mention commercials, TV shows (x files[used to be], outer limits dark angel, stargate SG1)
and my dad is an ex-actor, is writing a screenplay with his actor friends, and works on movies as transportation captain (ok THATS not such a big deal...) but i do get lots of exposure to "hollywood" |

norton is a great actor... it seems most agree. but would he take this role? I doubt it... he seems to (wisely) only take roles that challenge him as an actor... and I don't think this one would, unless they put some very interesting twists and turns in it. sorry for those that want him, but I just don't see it happening. I'm sure all top named actors will shy away (once again) from game-based movies once they get a look at how bad Tomb Raider sucks even though a gazillion dollars was thrown at it...

for the actors that have been mentioned so far, here are my opinions (whether you want them or not):
Norton: wouldn't do it, but has too much of a baby-face to me anyways... Mel: too old... would've been perfect back in the day, though Arnie,Willis,VanDamm: too old... and the movie would suk because of it Steven Baldwin: Is this a joke? Maybe Billy, but this guy's an idiot... the only letdown of Usual Supects... Marky-Mark: not bad... maybe will convince others after Planet of the Apes... Hugh Jackman/Russell Crow: my 2 favorite choices so far... Jackman the most.... my 2 cents... |

On the subject of directors:
i'd be over-joyed if the Wachowski brothers decided to direct. After watching the Matrix again recently, the effects (bullets times) and the production design are all landmark in cinema history and is just what a max payne movie needs. Everytime i watch it my respect for the Matrix grows. My ideal choice of directors for MP: 1. wachowski brothers and the whole matrix team 2. John Woo 3. Robert Rodriguez. Choices 1 and 2 fit the genre of the game better of course, as the movies by these directors inspired the playing style of max payne: the game. |

Re: Max Payne the movie - Rated R
Everyone should remember that we are only stating who we would like to see acting Max. There's no point in speculating if the person would or wouldn't take the part, because I'm quite sure they'll never even be offered it. Max Payne will be a fairly unknown actor. And the same goes for speculating about who you'd want to direct it. They're most prolly not going to. Especially if you're wanting John Woo or the Wachowskis. I'd like to see Qender's dad direct it. After all, he has experience with violent action movies.

So nobody wants Ed Norton to play the role. i like Norton as my first choice as u all know. Norton has good taste in the movies he picks and he dosne't play in many flicks.
So If you canceled Norton out my second favorite actor which I think would do the best. How bout my second favorite actor Brad Pitt. He's cool, has the kind of dark-humor that Max will probobly have. Built, not a pusssy millionare-smiles alot actor like say Cruise or Gibson or Ton Hanks. If everyone hear has seen Seven or Fight Club, mostly Seven you will find that Pitt will also be a good guy for the role of Max Payne |
