No, 22 all in all. It's a shame though, because 22 is a good number, that the Imp, which wasn't even varied itself, was used so much.

I hope this won't be the case with DNF. Like gameplay scenarios, enemy encounters should be varied as much as possible (as long as it fits with the context of the location and story).

3) Isn't the real question on enemies not the number but how many SPECEFIC enemies there are. I think one of the cool things about Duke was the different look of the enemies and all, most games now just have different variations on the same things (in some cases works like in farcry and in other boring like in HL2), Duke was like a zoo (heck remember that level).
no, there has to be ANOTHER reason why duke3D's enemies weren't repititive.
they weren't all different types.
the assault trooper and lizard man have the same recog sound.
the battlelord roaming sound is the same as when the assault trooper died, only a bit extended.

Duke 3D had less enemy types than Doom 3. Count 'em.

But the way in which the enemies were used is what did it. In Doom 3, not only did you fight imps every two seconds, but it was always the same type of encounter - they teleport in ahead of or behind you.

In Duke 3D, traps were fewer, farther between, and much more interesting.

If there are ends up beeing 20 or so enemies I will be ok with that. As long as there are different versions.

Such as:
Pig Cop
Swat Pig
Marine Pig
Civilian Pig

Just examples.

nice to come around and see george has thrown out some juicy nuggets.

sounds like everything is going really good.

i'm wondering a few things:

will enemies fight each other?

any idea how many people planned for multiplay maps? (16,32, 64)

will there in fact be a water level where duke has to go underwater?

drivable vehicles?

secondary uses for weapons?

sound effects: recycled, all new or combination of both ala hl2?

are there scary parts in the game? really creepy parts?

are there big boobies on the strippers?

what's the current size of the build? hopefully up from the 5 gig or so i'd think?

hey charlie, didn't portman look hot in star wars 3?

and the big one:

is there a possibility we'll get our chance to see dnf in some shape or form this year?

thanks as always

I have a few questions too (why not everyone else is doing it... )

* Has Duke's "look" changed at all or does he look like manhatten project with more detail?

* Will 5.1 surround sound be used?

* Are there any unique multiplayer modes to play?

* Are there any remade nostalgic levels from duke3d?

* Is it fast paced or more of one enemy at a time?

Ah! Well ignore me....I realized the answer would probably be yes anyway I just couldn't come up with any questions... I mean, what new game doesn't have 5.1 by now?

Im hoping his look hasnt changed since the original duke3d. SOOO many games today all have the same look for the main guy: basically some jerk inside some huge bio-suit type thing. Sure the color of the armor/suit changes from game to game, but it all looks pretty similar to me. If you shoot the guy from halo, should blood spray out? Or should it be sparks? Motor oil? I dont really like that.

I like how duke is just some dude in jeans and a red tank top. If you shoot him with a shotgun, you know hes going to feel it.

Just little thigns like this make games more fun. Sticking a Halo type helmet (or was it a robot's head?) on the neck instead of a real human face really takes a way from the game. How can you show facial expressions?

But that adds to the mystique of the Master Chief character. Because he never shows his body, he can be whoever you want.

In fact it's just a suit, he's not a cyborg or anything, although he's been heavily augmented for super human strength.

That would be cool:
Shrink duke (yourself. ) use you jetpack (which of course is also shrunk) and fly in to the toilet through the sewer. How is that for freedom of movement.

I know a better use of the shrinker though, when there are women walking around in skirts, shrink yourself to have a peek.

That toilet idea is awesome, but I think you should also be able to shrink yourself down enough to enter the nose of a pigcop for some inside adventures. You could wreak a lot of havoc in there.

Also, I think it would be cool if you could shrink pigcops and put them in microovens. That would be satisfying.

I would also like to be able to expand myself with the expander and walk around as a giant squashing Pig Cops.. it would be more practical than having to shrink every pigcop in your way.

Hasn't that been ID software's argument as well. Give me a damn character with a personality. That is why I like Duke, and that is why I hate so many other characters.

Which reminds me of somethin; will you be able to pick up shrunken enemies..?! And do you have to press some kind of key before stomping on him..?!
Because i HATED it when i suddenly got killed just because i couldn't move away from a shrunken enemy...

And did you forget the fact that the Serious Sam games are only about having a large number of enemies, and not all that much more?

BTW, try as hard as I can, I really can't recall 40 actual enemies in SS2... not even close

This reminds me of the tripe you read on the Bluesnews forums (read it for the first time yesterday)... 15 enemies is quite enough if used properly, and even then George said they were making more.

Plus, you'll note that he said 15 TYPES of enemies - not 15 specific enemies. A type could encompass several different actual enemies (like in Duke 3D, you had a pigcop, a pigcop in an aircraft, and a pigcop in that green ground vehicle)

People really need to stop jumping to conclusions and putting down everything 3DR touches - it's getting tiresome.

Ah yes, keep thinking of the 2nd encounter.

Nevertheless, SS's gameplay style is wildly different than anything resembling Duke, and the point still stands
