Can Joe confirm that 806 is in fact the most users ever at this site? That seems highly unlikely, considering the hoopla that accompanied the 2001 video. The site lurched to a stop back then. Counter reset, possibly?

Well the switch to vBulletin most likely axed the old count.

I don't think another thumbnail would generate nearly enough traffic for the ambitions of George of 1000 visitor. Screenshots(One might not be enough) or some gameplay clip(Duke killing a Pig Cop would be neat.

It would if this forum was the source of the thumbnail. Do we really know what sustained hits Gamasutra got when it hosted the job ad?

Well arguably the thumbnails where linked/attached here no often and news of them spread the internet(with many links to the threads in question). Yet I don't recall there been that many visitors online at any one time in that period.

But besides that, they have already shown 3 thumbnails. With a 4th one I think many people will simple think "Ohh no, not another one".

Edit:

Besides that, the attention diminished for each thumbnail. With the 1st one getting the most attention. A 4th one would probably get the least attention of all of them.

Definately wouldn't impress me anymore. The first thumbnail was fun because it was something the first thing to be seen in years. The second was basically ignored, and the magazine blur wasn't even worth anyone's time.

Actually, it was not. The month on that calendar started on a Monday and had 32 days.

It would be interesting to see whether it did work. The thumbnails posted here were inconsequential as the real pic was already being distributed on the linked sites, or else Gamasutra was taking the hits. People only came on here to read George's confirmation, which was more important the first time around when nobody expected it and due to the whole "is it an action figure" perception. That said, there were around 50-60k visitors per day so having 1000 people on at around the same time-period is not inconceivable.

Hmm nm I answered my own question...

If George announced he was to release a pic or something (hell he doesn't even have to say what it was) and it was going to be released on the forums on a date and time (again could be ANYTHING or NOTHING just to draw people) then the record will be broken

So far I've seen nothing pointing towards possible releasing of anything. The reason George put this in the DNF forums is (obviously) because stuff will get read into it, and more people will flock to the forums, so the record can possibly be broken.

In theory, they wouldn't even have to release anything that way. Hype alone will get the people coming here.

Ofcourse, it won't be as much fun as WITH a release of any sort
