For obvious reasons. Believe it or not, there might be people who wouldn't like something like that being included by default. However, I have added XXX Pack d/l links to the d/l section of Parkar's site (which effectively is "our" site now since all important links from my site now redirect to the official one). It's up to you to decide whether you want so see such stuff or not, and separately downloading it shouldn't be too much of an effort.

It was in no way a complaint! I just wanted a clear answer and I got one!
An extra download is no problem at all!

Btw, you guys rock and I really appreciate what you guys do.

My 13 year old daughter still uses BUILD like a 3D application, making houses and hotels, so yeah, XXX is best as a separate download.

LOL. You know you've been playing too much DN3D when you see a statue of a geisha and wonder why she dosen't show her boobs off when you press her tummy.

I put the parental controls on for the kids. I thought it was great that they were learning level design at that age.

I've got the HRP V4 working, and the maphacks, for I simply cannot get the high res music to work. Every time I start it up, it plays the old midi tracks.

I tried it with the duke3d_hrp.zip, maphacks.zip and eduke32_mus.zip in the following directory:

C:\Program Files\duke3d\autoload\duke3d.grp

I then tried it with just the HRP and maphacks in that, and the music in:

C:\Program Files\duke3d\autoload

The readme seemed to be saying to put it in one of these directories, but neither make the game use the new music. What is it I'm doing wrong here?

Are you sure you have installed OpenAL 3D audio API in your system (which is necessary to play ogg files in current Eduke32) ?

Hi,

I have found some bugs since I use the HRP v4 :

- What is this black square in the picture joined ? It appears in E3L3, and before I have explosed a Pigcop.

- I always start a new level with the jetpack activated although it is not activated in the previous level.

The log looks normal (a few warnings that everyone gets, nothing unusual). Could you check that part of the map in mapster and see if there is a black square there, and check to see what tile number it is (regardless of whether it is a black square or not)? Also, on the jetpack problem: is the game giving you a jetpack that you didn't have, or is the jetpack that you had simply being turned on?

About the jetpack problem, i've had this before. It only happens when i click "enter" at the end level screen to go to the next level. It automatically turns on whatever inventory item i used last in the previous level. I'm geussing it does this because pressing "enter" turns on whatever inventory item you used last while playing the game.

So yeah this is an EDuke32 bug, not an HRP issue.

Maybe one of the jib parts hasn't been converted properly. This may happen since there are parts you only see when you "produce" them ingame, such as these jibs.

Right, but he said it was there before he blew up the pigcop. Also, I checked the log and there were no invalid frame names.

I didn't say that. It was there after I blew up the pigcop.

Normal. I've quit the game after I have seen this bug and restart a new one.
I've post this log for the problem of the jetpack.

This bug appears in E3L4 and not in E3L3. I have restarted this level and blew up the pigcop and this bug didn't reproduced. If some day I see this black square, I post a new message.

But any how, This could have been a one off thing? Does it happen again, the texture being black? It just may not have loaded propley.

Found a little but with boot model:



This cut line visible if you choose not to see full hud in game options.

P.S. And , btw, this isn't looking as humal leg at all. Truly speaking, I prefer old sprite version.

It's difficult to make it look right, due to the angle and maybe some elevated anatomic knowledge which is required. I am confident there will be a proper revision at some point.

Since it is two-frame model (without animation), maybe 2D hi-res sprite is enough.

There will be two packs so the original pack will continue to be what it is today. otehr then making sure that all the models have normals so they get lit correctly there should be no difference.

How the new pack for Polymer will look I am not sure of yet other then that I have already branched it off. I am thinking of maybe making it a mod only thing and ditching the whole keeping it true as possible to the original as it will look different no matter what. In either case I will be releaing a pack with the textures I have so people can start fooling around once Plagman have a version released. It will look a lot different from the original game, but so does the HRP, and I don't see what that has to do with it being a mod. Of course, I will start updating Duke Plus to take full advantage of the new renderer as soon as it is released.

Branching them off is a good idea for several reasons, one reason being that the new one will require a better system to run.

everyone bitches about the boot. Its the one model where I actually modelled it directly off the sprite. Everything else I winged or eyeballed. Oh well.

So what does the new renderer use? Whats the poly count, what texture maps does it use, how many textures are already done?

Shame nobody said anythiing earlier, I was going to do a sculpt-higher poly version of the Queen but I put it off as I thought nobody would ever get to play it till DNF came out.

I think me and Esslan are pretty much the only ones who has done any real assets for it and normal mapped models are not suported yet. And I have only played around with it for a week or two so there is quiet a bit of experimenation to do before we know any guidelines or anything like that.

Texture maps used so far are: Diffuse, Normal, Height(normal alpha), Specular color, Specular Power (specular alpha) and glow maps.

I got a new pigcop model started a way back around the time Plagman started work on this and the polycount on that is a tad higher then the old one. It's more or less the old one but tweaked with a bit more detail and a highpoly version which still needs sculpting and textures.

As far as what is done I think it's like 10-20 textures I have done so far. Some fom scratch and quiet a lot more or less just using a cool tool called crazy bump. Some of them still looks like ass to.

It's the same engine wtf? It's just a different RENDER, video is a completely different thing altogether, and if you were to add video I would go with Theora not AVI.

Crazy bump is awesome. Sadly it's no longer free. X-normal is pretty good for baking and so forth.

Blender can now do baking of normal, AO, diffuse and normal maps from high-low poly models. It can sculpt too.

For simple textures you can get the GIMP or PS and generate a basic bump map pretty easily. Try the photocopy filter in PS.

As I said, if someone had said something to me, the last years or so of models would have had normal maps submitted with them. That would also include the Queen and Cycloid. There would have been a lot more models as well.

The reason I stepped back from the HRP is that I wanted to learn how to do all this stuff, so I went elsewhere.

That sucks, but before you get too pissed off, keep in mind that the existence of the new renderer owes itself largely to Plagman being able and willing to use a lot of his time for that purpose. As a normal person with a regular job, he probably didn't have a very clear idea how long it would take him or even whether the thing would be finished, so it was reasonable for him to not announce it.
