The couple of surprises are of a personal nature, given my connection to Rise of the Triad. That's about all I'll say.

Yes I realize that, but as has been stated above DOSBox does and you can mount a BIN/CUE CD image as a CD-ROM using MP3s as CD Audio tracks in DOSBox so that the game thinks they're CDA tracks. DOSBox has a command called IMGMOUNT where you can mount CD images as actual drives.
Hmm. Lemme talk to someone about that.

Quote:
But that's not even why I said it. I meant for personal use just so they aren't lost forever. Or even for the people who DO know how to put it all together in a BIN/CUE CD image (or even burn to an actual CD) to use with the game.
Well, they wouldn't be lost forever. 3DR would still ahve them.

Shareware has midi music to keep the file download size down. Plus you couldn't mount CD audio in standard DOS like that. Remember, you didn't need things like DOSBox when these games were new.

(just kidding, sorry, could not resist <EG>)

Thank you for all your hard work Joe.

I will definitely be buying some of these from the new store! I'm glad 3D Realms will still be selling their games. It's also nice to see that you guys finally got some things taken care of, like the Rott package and DNMP.

I do have one question, though-

Will 100% of the money from purchases made at the new store basically go to 3DR? Obviously, I want to support the company if I can, and I'd like to have an idea about how much of the money would go to 3D Realms' bank account.

OH NICE! ROTT with all of the goodies...this is pretty cool considering I've spent the last TWO DAYS trying to get a game of ROTT going with friends online. (Yes we all bought the game a loooong time ago :P ). I've tried with WinROTT, WinROTTGL, and good ol' standard ROTT with DOSBox and Dukonnector...connection problems connection problems lol.

Needless to say, my interest in ROTT just kicked back in for me and I'll definitely buy the ROTT game from the new store. Now I'm all antsy like a little kid again...and I'm 26..lol

Yeah, as far as I know - obviously beyond the cut that the store takes - but that's the same anywhere.

Well, if I remember right, the full version doesn't have code to recognize it - it forced you to use CD audio only. It was (if I remember right) at the time considered to be a less obnoxious form of copy protection.

Huh, thats odd. I figured the full version would have the same 'features' as the shareware.

NinjaEdit: Is the code simply not there, or is it just because there are no midis included in the full release?

48.3 meg download? That's awfully large. I'm going
to need the hope that the internet doesn't die for
the next four hours. To top it off, I'm going to need
to find a bunch of working floppy disks.

Not for what's included in there it isn't.

For shits & giggles, here's all of the new files, and what their sizes are:

I'm really considering buying these. I already own many of these games on floppies, but who has a floppy drive anymore?

That being said, you can pry the Commander Keen floppies (and the pink cheat sheet) from my cold, dead hands.

3DR actually had only two floppy drives left. They were both USB floppies on a database machine. They were used to manufacture the floppy games we still sold until recently.

The hint sheets (where they existed) are in these files (as pdf scans). Same goes for the manuals (where they existed).

Joe would it be possible to release the Shadow Warrior music as MP3 to allow end users to BURN a cd to be used with the game? Thats the only regret I have to loosing my SW disc; the music was fantastic.

You reminded me of Tomb Raider 1 & 2 PC version as some copies didn't come with the music included. A fan site has the tracks for download and explain how to burn it to disc. Now, Joe could do a similar thing, but could make the audio tracks only available with the full version.

This isn't steam. It's a tradtional online store through one of Digital River's offerings.

You won't need that. The version of DOSBox I'm shipping with the games is 0.72, and works. Given it WORKS, there's no real reason to replace it unless you really wanted to for some reason.

I'll examine this, but not until next week. I'm leaving in less than an hour to go to the hospital with my wife. Our son is being born today.

I've got a couple of months old Core2 machine here with one - it's a 5¼" drive at that! (And yes, Windows 7 has a nice icon for it too...)

I doubt there are many others with a machine with only a 5¼" drive, at least not machines built this century...

I'm still running on an old 2.5Ghz mobo with a FDD controller. So I've actually got a real old-school floppy drive. I could even throw in one of the 5.25" drives I have lying around if I wanted to but I don't have room (DVD-RW, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, and a Zip Disk drive taking up space).

This is freakin' sweet news, glad to see this Joe! I will certainly be grabbing Balls of Steel and ROTT ASAP.

QUESTION: It appears these will be separate downloads, but what about a nice "full collection" download at a discounted price? I don't need all these games as I have quite a few of them, but I would definitely go for a full package deal if it's lower than all together.

A question, is the dukenukem3d.exe Atomic edition of DN3D and how does it vary from the gog.com release ?

Do you plan to offer the extended download service or backup CD service from Digital River for an additional fee in the new online store? Digital River normally only allows 30 days from date of purchase to download the software unless the extended download service is purchased at the same time as the software.

500mb is less than nothing today (especially when you paid for).
If you include the mp3's (80mb instead of 500), we can burn it on a cd and have the complete game.

So, I don't understand the problem here.
