Re: Demo First Impressions
The demo installed without any problems.
I tried the MP part on Lan and just walked around and played with the weapons. The weapons a really interesting and the wall walking is really cool. AVP had a mode were the creature could walk up walls but this is way better and it adds a great element to the game. I feel a few times which can be interesting in MP matches.

Graphics, UI and overall package is outstanding. Can't wait to buy the game.

As a side note I was going to buy the game anyway but the demo made it a no-brainer.

Great job on the demo and thankyou for releasing the demo before the game.

I hope it sells tons of copies.

Best FPS i played in a long long time.

The portals were were just amazing. It's so fluid and mind boggling. Like the one behind the counter that makes you exit from itself.
How about that call from George, from Garland, Texas on the Art Bell show?

Loved the demo. Can't wait for gold.....

j/k it´s awesome, the wallwalking makes me sick, really
And that´s a good thing because from the videos it never looked so weird...but when you experience it by yourself
I really loved it that the sphere (the voice) calls you an "it"

I just played a short part of the demo (up until Downward spiral, where I stopped) and the game's been really pulling me in. It's amazing how there's not a LOT of action, and still I've had a great time playing this far!

You guys really did a great job on the storytelling

So I guess now it's waiting for my new PC to run the game acceptable

I love Tommy. It's so nice to hear him actually talk unlike so many other FPS games out there. His remarks always echoed my exact thoughts, from landing after the intro scene, to the world-in-a-box ("He's a giant..! Oh, SHIT...")

Fantastic voice acting, too, by the way. You picked a great actor to play Tommy. He actually SOUNDS like an American Indian, too. I can't describe that too well without sounding horribly racist, so I won't bother, but kudos for the great, great voice acting.

Oh, man, and as the son of a fanatical radio newsman, it made me EXTREMELY happy to hear Art Bell's voice again in God-knows-how-long. Bringing him into the game was a simple stroke of pure genius.

All-in-all, a definite breath of fresh air.

AWESOME JOB HH AND 3DR!!!!!!! WOOHOO!

Ok... now im gonna give this demo a 9.9/10! Gotta nitpick but is there a way you could change it so the Save Game screen doesnt pop up when it autosaves? Kinda takes you outta the mood...

You guys did such a great job on this its incredible. I wasnt expecting a product this well done. Tommy sounds EXCELLENT, nice job on the voice acting. And I love how we actually interact with the environment! Its nice to know we actually have hands!

And I also cant believe how smooth this game played. Im on an AMD 3700+ and a 7800GT 256mb and played it at 1600x1200 everything on high WITH VSYNC (game had alot of tearing with it off). I figured once I turned on vsync that the frame rate would go in the toilet(it does for all my other games, but they dont have bad tearing so...) but even in battle with multiple enemies it was smooth as butter!

My 3 favorite parts was right after you got abducted, theres a view of earth while your tied up on the platform. When I saw that I actually said out loud "Oh my god!". And without missing a beat what did Tommy say? OH. MY. GOD. I was like, whoa!

Second was the part when I pushed the button and started the machine back up. THAT WAS A RIOT! HAHAH!

Third was the "Are you ok" line.... omg I almost pissed myself after Tommys line!

Definitely must buy and I wanted to say that THIS game is why we play computer games. Its the total package!

I'm glad to see a down to earth character star in a game for once.

EDIT: I like the voice of the ship. I also like the music when you use SpiritWalk.

You know, it's unfair how 3DR is really going to end up with all the credit although Human Head developed the game.
No disrespect to 3DR of course. They were a pivotal role in the development as well.

I played the demo and was extremely impressed. I used headphones while playing and throughout the demo I was drawn in and moved, scared and my heart was still ebating after I was done playing. It was the most excellent 1st person shooter since Half Life 2 and surpassed it. I am already in the pre-order process. When the green lights appeared in the lounge bar I was speechless. I did not know if I should move or not. Really well done. Sound and graphics was top notch. Anyone who did not open up to this missed the game and should not spend the 50 bucks to buy the game. This game would be wasted on your lack of imagination and feeling.

This is by far the best demo i've played of any FPS game for the past couple of years. The innovative ideas can be seen everywhere in the gameplay mechanics and it has brought back my belief in the FPS genre.
Doom 3 and Half-Life 2 was, in my opinion, just a lot more of the same old thing. And even though i found both games to be good games, i never had that wow feeling(i did with the graphics in D3, but there's no fun in that with average gameplay) while playing them. Actually i was bored a lot of the time.

But, the Prey demo was exciting to play. So many new ways to play and interact with the environment, not to mention the puzzle possibilities. And the fact that the game also looks stunning and has some very decent sound just makes it even better.

This is a definite buy when i comes out.

I did have a minor problem with the placement of the grenades in the weapon lineup. I wish it were possible to customize the weapon order because I would like the grenades to go at the absolute end and not between the rifle and the leech gun.

JUDAS F****** PRIEST!

I has an enourmous grin on my face from start to finish playing this demo. More creativity and interactivity in this small (scratch that, the demo is pretty big actually by todays standards, and this is how it SHOULD be done) slice of game than any FPS I've played in the last 5 years.

The beginning sequence felt like the DNF trailer with it's interactivity and games. I spent about 5 minutes just switching the taps on and off

The grin got even wider when I discovered the music selections on the Jukebox. I found the alien space craft sequences at the beggining pretty creepy, and the violent sequences later on left my jaw open slightly a few times (Probably don't need to tell you exactly which bit I remeber most ).

The wall walking and portals were like taking LSD (I'd imagine), and the grin was fortified after chasing myself through two boxes for aprox 3 minutes. Tiny planet sequence got the biggest ''doubleyuuteeeffffff!!'' out of me, frigging incredible.

My computer pretty much sucks, so all I did was increase it from 640 * 480 to 800 * 600, and it ran perfectly, looked okay. Not even tried to bump up the setting yet. Literally the only thing holding me back from getting the game is not being able to run it with all the features and stuff on high.

All in all, HH and 3DR have, by the impressions of the demo, made a classic..taking FPS in the direction they should be taken. And JUDAS F****** PRIEST!

Re: Demo First Impressions
Simply an amazing demo. Probably the best one I've played in a long, long time.

Everything felt so polished and "solid". Brilliant art direction and level design.
Controls are dead on. The sound effects and musical score are amazing.

I absolutely loved the beginning of the demo with Tommy looking at himself in the mirror and basically summing up his whole persona. So effective and brilliant that the player is able to understand him so quickly early on. Especially when he runs into his grandfather. Which leads me to the dialogue between characters.

Scott and George said you really have to witness/play the game and then hear the dialogue in context while playing. I totally agree. Some of the videos of Tommy's dialogue seemed "forced" or worse didn't seem like they fit. After playing around a bit in the demo(I'm not finished yet) they're spot on correct.

Very enjoyable dialogue. Lot's of emotion. The humor was spot on, not forced.
I got to the part with the human guy in his underwear banging on the alien door and as you approach him, Tommy tries talking to him but to no avail. I really didn't know what to do so I basically capped him in the head to put him out of his misery and Tommy's like "Sorry bout that dude". I almost pissed myself.

The graphics are amazing. I can't stress enough how much Humanhead are coding Gods with optimizing/modifying the Doom 3 code. The load times were pretty much non-existant. I've got a gig of ram and I don't think I waited longer than 15-20 seconds MAX for levels to load.

The portals? Holy shit! The movies DO NOT do them justice. Much like the voice acting, you have to *EXPERIENCE* the portals for yourself. Such a great concept and it's bound to get even crazier in the full game and in the mod community!

What really made me happy was the interaction. If anyone ever says 3dr/Humanhead don't know games or how gamers like to *play* games, throw em' into a portal. I must have spent 15 minutes in the bathroom playing with the hand dryer, soap dispenser, sink and faucets, flushing toilets, flicking lightswitches on and off and then playing with the jukebox(f!ck that's so awesome!) and the arcade games and slot/poker machines. Pure brilliance.
Everything I saw as a player that I wanted to play with-3dr and Humanhead made it interactive. So great man!

Now let me get to the multiplayer deathmatching. I hate deathmatching. I've never cared for it. I pretty much despise it.

A few minutes into the Prey deathmatching made me realize that the mode in the past had grown old and outdated to me.

Everything with Multiplayer PREY deathmatch was new again. Wall walking....gravity flipping...portals. All new and unique play mechanics that the mode has desperately needed for years. 3drealms and Humanhead have truly innovated here with the deathmatching. It's no exaggeration. The couple multiplayer 16 man servers I played, everyone was commenting how freaking cool it was and people were having a blast!

But I'll sum it up best with what my five year old son said while he was watching me play multiplayer for the first time. This was his exact quote: "You can walk on walls daddy? How cool!" Of course, he then angled for me to let him play. (Yes, he can play with the mouse, keyboard, everything and he's pretty damn good!)

3drealms and Humanhead have a AAA title on their hands(the only way they do things anyways) and will sell these suckers quicker than flashlights in a power outage.

Humanhead-you guys deserve a good vacation and unending praise. Everyone there is extremely talented and the greatest compliment I can give you all is that I plan on scouring every inch of the full game to take in all the little details and secrets and appreciate the hard work you've put into the game.

3drealms-thanks for staying the course and not giving up on PREY. You guys take ALOT OF BULLSHIT in the fan community but as usual let the game(s) speak for themselves. Now after Humanhead have their vacations, why don't you talk to them about a certain other game they could certainly help you out with.

See you guys in multiplayer PREY. Look for Kaisersoze{3drbb}

Screw that prey better not get game of the year 2006! PC Gamer had better make a new game of the decade award for prey! Everything about this game is awesome as kaszier said the prey match is totally unique adds a whole new level of gameplay to multiplayer, im sick and tired of the world war two crap and unreal incarnets. This game was worth the seven years i waited for it definately, i remmber reading a pcg with a prey review in 99 or 98 and it sold then, so glad to see this game hit the light of day, i never had any doubts about DNF but prey was a total other story. Anyways Human Head did a very awesome job on all aspects of the game the level design is even so much more intrakit than othe fps, theres always something going on your not just walking around board. And the tech is awesome, im running an outdated ati x800 pro with an xp 2700 and 2 gig of ram, i set everything to the max including FSAA up to 4 and never had much of problem. But mostly the game play is just rock solid all around.

Re: Demo First Impressions
Yeah, the demo is great: for such an old dinosaur that is my comp, I remarked that it runs better than D3/Q4 and even in low resolution, the scenes are beautifull (I remarked that with D3 compared to older games, now it feels even better to me...).

A point which I enjoyed too: the gore part Damn, it was fun in Quake 4 when you see those nice "puppet human" being stroggified to death and here we've got plain impaled dudes great ! (Same thing for the kid, was fun too).

The dialogs/voices are cool, it fits well with the scenes, also special thanks for the captions for every non-english and/or deaf people: believe it or not, but Doom 3 haven't got those & our deaf friends were very embarrassed to feel the Doom 3's great atmosphere (for those interrested: check Doom3[cc], a mod that I participated), so it's a good point.

I've tried the multiplayer part, but I had a lot of lag with my comp / connection (depended on how many players were in the map...), anyway, beeing a former AvP fan, and having the habit to play as the Alien helped me alot with those gravity flipping and I can understand that some people can be seriously on a "puke feeling" .

Anyway, this is both a great singleplayer and multiplayer demo that you guys gave us: I personaly haven't experienced any bug (I don't consider the mirror stuff a bug as I know how Doom 3 engine deals with it), anyway, I'll re-play it as soon as I can to find any "bad little bugs". Speaking of bugs, I love the *pouic* sound the 'nades produce when you get those: reminds me of a child's toy and it's damn funny.

Re: Demo First Impressions
Single Player: GREAT. Just great. Those gravity psycho stuff is great. Plot is gonna be nice, and those interiors of alien ship are very nice.
Only thing I'm not sure I love are those two children killing each other... That probably made it one year more for Pegi and other organisations.
But what about the length of it? If you say that demo requires an hour to play? I've finished it faster, and I haven't played it as fast as possible. I was wandering here and there.

Multi Player: To be honest - not nice.
Gravity ideas in multi are great, levels are nice, but weapons... are boring.
In every dynamic multi player FPS like Quake (not like Counter Strike, where one bullet kills) there just have to be al least three types of weapons:
- some kind of rocket launcher - gun that uses prediction skill: you have to predict where enemy is gonna be in one second. In Prey there is a rocker launcher, but it's .. bad. I mean, I want to see where my rocket goes, and in Prey I just see that I fire and then there is big boom, so I can't really tell if I hit enemy or I hit 1 meter from enemy for where did this rocket go.
- some kind of rail - a weapon that uses aiming skill: it is very powerful but requires very high aiming skill. In Prey demo I haven't found any gun like that.
- other guns: machineguns and everything else. In Prey there are some very strange weapons, and I just don't like them. I don't like shooting with them. I don't like this liquid or whatever it is gun, I don't know what damage it makes because I just spray on the walls and I shoot enemy and I got no idea what damage does he receive.
In Prey multi is not ... "clear" - if you know what I mean. It should be clear, visible what happens, I want to see every rocket so I can omit it, and here if someone fires a rocket there is just one big boom and I don't know who fired, who died, and what is going on. Explosions are too big.
Look at Quake 3 or 2, there everyting is clear, visible... I hope someone understand me

But gravity is perfect

Absolutely f*cking amazing.

Human Head, you guys did an outstanding job with this. Not only does it look, sound, and feel better than Doom3/Quake 4... but it makes me want to play it so much more than those games ever did.

The atmosphere, enemies, animations... it was all top grade.

I was expecting to have to turn graphics down lower than what i play D3 at... but nope. It plays at the same settings and just as smooth. Great optimization.
The organic weapons, in a word... "brilliant". The sniper rifle animtation is so damn cool. And if you just stand around the eye thign looks aroudn and at you.
I loved how Tommy got his finger hurt by the little creature grenades when you first pick em up.

I am so damn hyped for the final release now I can't stand it. This was awesome, a much needed fresh idea/perspective on the FPS genre. Just by playing the first five levels... it seems the days of people calling HL/HL2 the best FPS ever are soon over.
