These pics are great - the way we're willing to pick over even a blurry screencap is a tribute to how dedicated and enthusiastic we are about the whole Duke thing.....

But.....

How many of us would have swapped state of the art graphics for a finished game we can play NOW, with older graphics like say... Unreal 2 or (Source)Half-life 2 ????

Did someone recognize, that the horns on the head are not visible from the "behind" pic?
seems the angle is not right? does the blur? effect comes from a duke flying within the wormhole-like "standpoint" or is it a big huge portal?
Mayby a view through a spy-glass? A vision of duke?

incredible graphics, let's just hope the gameplay comes out as nice as the graphics, if they added smoke coming from bullet holes as they bounce off the walls it'd be even better

don't know but those graphics are pretty incredible, let's hope this thing comes out soon

like I said let's hope the gameplay is as nice as the graphics

The one thing I really like about that model is just how un-polygonal it looks. It looks REALLY smooth. I'm not sure if thats just a high polygon render or the ingame model, but either way it looks damn good (and in-game it looks about the same juding by the demo-reel)

If you notice, that image has antialiasing going on all over. Someone already mentioned (I forgot who) that because of the lighting method they're using they can't do AA. So this is most likely not an ingame shot.

I assume you're talking about Defered Shading not being able to be Anti-Aliased? This is a popular misconception.

Defered Shading makes use of Multiple Render Targets, or MRTs, to render the scene to usually around four backbuffers in a single pass, usually writing out depth, normals, diffuse color, specular attributes and any other information the lighting shaders need. This allows complex lighting algorithms to be ran once per light instead of once per light per object.

Defered Shading itself has no problems with AA, it's the MRT's which don't play well with MSAA in DirectX 9. Using DX10 and above, MRT's support full MSAA.

Furthermore, hardware MSAA is not the only method of achieving an Anti Aliased image. There are numerous techniques around to achieve good enough AA results through shader, such as running a Sobel filter to extract edge information from the rendered scene and using that edgemap to selectively blur edges for an AA effect.

man if it wasn't for them letting go of the staff I'll bet they'd be releasing this thing by now, I mean who knows how much longer it takes to make a game that's 60% complete



....... then again........ this is Duke Nukem FOREVER......... a game in the works for over 12 years.......
