Re: Duke Nukem 3D Music & Sound Project
Haven't been round these parts for awhile, just thought I would drop in for an update....
Im so close now the excitement nearly made me pee my pants. Basically, I only have 2 tracks left to do. I've gone over and gone back to some previously finished tracks and updated them some more. I'm starting to feel satisfied with the overall picture, its only gonna be another couple of weeks now, not months. Actually, the complete package for EPSODE 1 has been sitting pretty for nearly a month now but I haven't released it yet because I'm not sure whats happening with the OGG support. I will have to do some research on these threads to see if we are ready for it. Expect a 4 album Christmas present coming soon.... |

Re: Duke Nukem 3D Music & Sound Project
Alienz is not too bad. Mainly sounds like the midi with different instruments. But better anyway
But I think Stalker would recuire more "acoustic" instruments.. But not bad at all. |

Re: Music Project
Jeez you guys are impatient! JonoF's port isn't anywhere near finished yet and neither is the whole Duke revamp project.
I have all the finished tracks, but I'm not releasing them yet because i'm still not happy with one or 2 things. You have to remember that once these get out they will be flooded all over the net and it would be hard to control if I ever wanted to chenge something. Remember "it'll be done, when its done". |

Guys, while you wait check this out... This is something I made years ago and just found it on a backup CD. I'm sorry for the low quality but I lost the original source files.

Re: Music Project
Well, "Eat It" may be stupid like bread, but I cannot help it... it´s somehow addictive (I almost had to puke when I first listened to it, though).
Anyway, I hope your other tracks are a *LITTLE BIT* different from that... I´m really excited about what you made of my favorite ingame tracks like "Plasma", "RoboCreeping", "Aliens, Say Your Prayers!" or "Whomp" - because Mark McWane´s renderings didn´t fully convince me. They lacked the right instrumentation. |

Two custom MIDIs
PeteB,
When you´re done with the tracks for original Duke3D episodes, perhaps you could consider doing OGG or MP3 renderings of the two MIDIs I have provided in the attached zipfile. Those two MIDIs are taken from an old Gravis UltraSound CD of mine (yes, it´s ANCIENT). They are freeware and sound quite cool. I intended to use them as part of a custom MP3 soundtrack for the DukeDC HRP as soon as support is available in jfDuke3D and eDuke32. Of course I would give you full credit for the files in the readme and on my site. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Two custom MIDIs
Wow, that cool, we should ask the guy if he would like to remix the musci for DN3D and the sound project. The music sounds really cool.

Bart Klepka
First, I want to wait for PeteB´s soundtrack. He´s made considerable efforts to complete it, so it´d be a shame if everyone already promoted another musician.
BTW do we also have a remake of "Grabbag", or does the track once provided on the Duke3D installation CD suffice? |

Re: Music Project
Thanks very much for re-visiting these songs, PeteB. I've been watching the thread for a while and am still eager to get the whole package of songs you're re-working.
For stalker in particular I really think you caught what the original composer was doing, improved the strong points and strengthened the tinny sampled sound that I always thought came because of the limited MIDI instrument set. Your stalker song sounds as familiar as the original but keeps it's tempo, construction, and style. (whatever that means) I think your improvements of the leads, the square waves and saws in particular sound great. They sound more bright than the original and I think the ring modulator effect you used along with the variations on the leads keep them grabbing your attention. I dont know if actual distorted guitar would sound 'right' to me in these songs, so I think I understand what you did with the ring modulator to simulate distortion without using the real thing (I like it better here!). I thought that the original composer wanted the drums to be crisp on this song and you've kept and enhanced that too. I'd heard that Lee Jackson had a background as a band director for a high school, and he seemed to love to make great big sounding songs (at least for Duke Nukem 3d) with lots of intricate work in many many background instruments. You must have had to pour over these songs for a long time to re-engineer his 'sound'. I'm just a listener but I look forward to hearing about your work! |

Re: Music Project
Well, I have a question: I have a lot of midi song on my hd and would like to use them in DN3D, what do I need to do to get them woring in game, expect from rename them and such? I´m a bit tired to hear the same tunes all the time. I also have tons of tracker formatted musci and so on, is it possible to use them in DN3D HRP somehow? I use the newest version of the HRP.

Re: Music Project
I see. I wish it was possible just to make amusic floder in DN3D and place all the music in there and then select it with F5+Shift. Like GTA or other games do it. It would be eaiser then to get the right msuic for user maps and so on. Also, I dont have any idea how to code, so I cant do things like con- file dit.

Re: Music Project
you dont need to know any coding , just replace the filenames with the names of your files, for example when it says "dethtoll.mid" change it for "mysong.mid" , simple as that.

Ok, but what do I need to open the con file? Is there any special programs needed?
