Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
See:
http://assignments.uspto.gov/assignm...=&sno=76529121 I have no idea if 3D Realms got any cash from that, though. It appears to be purely between Radar and Zenimax. According to that website, 3D Realms had handed over Prey to Radar on 06/22.

Anyone know if Humanhead is developing Prey 2? If so will Zenimax publish Prey 2? And if so there's must be some dollars in that deal

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
Quote:
It sounds like that Human Head quote is very carefully worded. They don't ever explicitly say that they are or aren't developing Prey 2. Here is what they say broken down: 1. They can't comment on its status. 2. They have never announced it(despite both 3DR and them mentioning it in interviews soon after the release of Prey and Radar Group mentioning it on their website as a project in development in cooperation with Human Head from the day the website went online upto and including now, but technically yes there hasn't been an annoucement/press release). 3. They are not sure the starting assumption is valid. 4. They are interested in developing it. I can't see which of these 4 points say they aren't(or are for that matter) developing it. The statement looks to be very very carefully worded to not confirm or deny either way. But I agree something is going on with regard to Prey 2. I have suspected that since Human Head announced their co-operation with Marc Ecko Entertainment. Edit: As far as who Radar Group are, a good source of information is their press book as well as this IGN interview with Scott Miller.

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
. . . linked to a pair of blog posts (which have since been removed) from a Human Head employee; One is an older post saying employees were taking week-long unpaid furloughs to help with cash flow since they had no current projects.
Sounds like they're not (or at least weren't) working on it to me. |

You missed my point. My point is does Radar Group ACTUALLY operate as it advertises itself, or it is just an interesting idea/thought by Scott gone bad/abandoned/that didn't catch and now operates as a "leftover" of that. Also, giving the Prey IP is a normal operation for Radar Group, or not? (sorry for my english ![]()

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
Well they have their projects that are in the works. We can't really say anything much about how well things have been going for Radar Group. They released their first Depth Entertainment movie. But that was a leftover from before Scott Faye started Depth, it was a licensed project from Take Two and it wasn't created using their idea of telling different slices of a storyverse in different media. Also it isn't just Scott Miller:

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
Well, as of right now, Radar haven't done anything in the games industry. Perhaps, they are supporting several developers but we are yet to see something out of this.

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
Correct. This an industry with slow turn around times on projects. I suspect that some of the Radar IP's might be launched by Depth movies.

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
To my understanding Radar's Group promised innovation is that it will work as an IP "bank" and "factory" let's say.
It will manage, produce and share/sell original IPs, or just help small developers make the most of their IPs. So my questions is "Was giving the Prey IP just an ordinary transaction for the IP "Bank/Factory" Radar Group"? Or this is a ricochet of 3d realms financial difficulties? Or neither?

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
I don't know. But "giving" is almost certainly not what happened here. I don't think selling the IP's will be the usual course of business for Radar. But I think Scott mentioned that as possibility a couple of years back. I don't remember if that was in connection with Radar or it was in pre-Radar times. But basically the concept was to create a new IP, grow it into a success and then sell it. But the more usual thing will probably be for Radar Group to profit from being a co-owner in the IP.

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
Radar group has not yet update its site regarding this.
They still have Prey 2 as their own project.

if Zenimax owns Prey Franchise, then probably Prey 2 will use Id tech 5 (Rage's engine). that sounds good!

Radar group is a con if I ever saw one. The question is can Scott find any shmucks that will pay him to think of a cool game. HaHa thats funny, I bet we see very little on Radar group in the future.

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
Well, why not? Prey 1 used the Doom 3 engine, so it seems like Human Head has some good relationship with id's technologies, and with Zenimax under the Prey project, as well as having ownership in the engine technology licensing, it all seems to come together.

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
Zenimax owns Prey and they know that they have one of the best developers of FPS games in id Software. So I am quite sure they will let id do Prey 2. There's only one problem though. We may have to wait for years before Prey 2 gets released. Why ? Because id has quite a few projects already under development, Rage, Doom 4, Quake Live and Quake 5 Arena. So until these games are finished, I don't see id starting to develop Prey 2 now.

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
I highly doubt it would be ID doing Prey 2... ID tends to work on their own IP's and the development of new IP's they would never look at Prey 2 with the goal of making it themselves so the only way they would make it is if their publisher forced them to which they would never do.
Nice theory however. |

Re: Zenimax now owns the Prey trademark
The most logical thing for Zenimax to do would be to have Human Head develop Prey 2.
