Hhg Duke Nukem 8x8 Block Tournament-- Duke's Answer to MM8BDM
After playing Mega Man 8-Bit Death Match, an excellent freeware DOOM engine game which converts 8-Bit Mega Man NES graphics into a FPS multiplayer experience, it got me thinking about doing the same for classic Duke Nukem. What if you could make a mod for EDuke in which the 8x8 block EGA graphics of Duke Nukem 1 were rendered into a FPS multiplayer experience? Not only that, but the game could convert the levels and weapons from Duke Nukem II and Duke 3D into the 8x8 block EGA graphics of Duke Nukem 1, just like MM8BDM did with Mega Man 7 and 8. Could you imagine what a freaky retro experience that would be like? The game would begin in typical DN 1 fashion, with Dr. Proton threatening to take over the world again, and then the levels themselves would be accompanied with single-speaker renditions of DN2 and DN3D songs in the background.

Imagine 8x8 block EGA versions of Rigelatins, Blue Guards, Alien Troopers, Assault Troopers, Battle Lords, the Overlord, the Cycloid Emperor, and more. And they would all be played in multiplayer levels based upon locales from Duke 1, 2, and 3D. And the weapons from Duke 3D would be rendered in 8x8 too, but the default weapon would fall to the Nuclear Pistol from Duke 1.

Does that sound like too wacky an idea to implement?
