If he's gonna eat them he's gonna reduce them to powder anyways and mix the with juice or something, or put it on a pizza as extra dressing.

Kaiser, I strongly recommend making regular images of your system-partition with Acronis TrueImage or a similar tool. You can boot from a CD if WinXP doesn`t start up anymore. Burn your images also on DVD-RW. And burn your folders with important data regularly on CD-RW.
Just don`t rely on Windows recovery. It sucks as you had to learn..

Kaiser,

Instlal a second hard drive in your system. About once a month run Norton Ghost on it and copy drive 1 to drive 2. You will always have a drive image and if drive one fails you just plug in drive 2, boot, and go.

George learned that the hard way. Didnt you know that is why they restarted DNF they worked on it for years and then the hard drive died on them.

so, the engine change is in fact the engine of the HD and not of DNF. Makes sense.

Kaiser, If your hard drive fails and Windows cant recover it, but you had important info on it (like pics and videos about your breakfast ) then you can try "knoppix" to recover info. Its linux based OS, bootable from CD.

Maybe that way you dont have to eat them again...

I think what George meant is that you wount hold second hard-drive "in" computer... rather than make an image once in a month and take it out. So if something bad happens like power "jump" or lightning strike or whatever then your both hard-drives wount get screwd...

edit: and of course little older desktop PC-s didnt come with RAID controller built in... This is quite new trend.

a second hard-drive is a must, that´s true. I use true image and store my system-images on the second hard-drive.
But the safest way IMO is to have the latest images also on dvd-rw in a safe place. If your pc gets destroyed or stolen (by a fan ? ) you can easily set up your new system again as you need it and you won`t have to ask our curious Uncle Bill in Redmond .
Besides, if you get used to making images before critical installations and something fails you can easily go back to a working system immediately before the problem. Lately I wanted to try kaspersky trial and my machine suddenly crashed when I tried to go online. Luckily I had made an image and got rid of this crap again.
Sorry for being a little off-topic, but I think this subject is interesting for many folks here
