While I like to think 3DR is just bankrupt and lounging around, it's probably not true - and I have a feeling 3DR would do well without DN3D being sold.

Also to whoever suggested I buy DN3D, I already own it. Ain't about what I want - I just think it's an old enough game to be free already.

I don't see why they shouldn't sell anything that still works and still sells. They have a right to every penny.

I want games to be available to the public, either for sale or as freeware. The only thing that bothers me is a company that will do neither, depriving everyone of the game. Kudos to 3DR for still selling so many of their old games, and for making so many of their discontinued titles free.

I just ran biomenace with my compiled version of dosbox
(gcc compiler), it ran *perfect*. Here's what I did:

mount r: b:\bio

I then navigated to r: and typed in 'bmenace1.exe', set my
configuration in the game menus, and started playing...

Note: I'm not running the patch version...

Thanks for releasing this joe! It's a great christmas gift!

Yay.
This is a great game, one of my favourite games ever.
Brings back memories.
I only ever had the 1st episode back 12 or so years ago, though. I was really young back then. But I loved it.
The Apogee/Epic shareware episodes were staples of my childhood.
It's good to see companies doing things like this.

Glad y'all like it. Been wanting to do this for awhile.

As was pointed out, you can make levels with Ted, which is offered as a dl elsewhere on our site. What most of us didn't realize for the longest time is that the registered game comes with the Ted support files for Bio Menace.

All you need to do is drop in the ted exe file and it should work.

Granted, learning Ted can be a bit bizarre. It's not as complicated as today's editing tools, but it has it's own quirks.

Hell yes! I haven't played this game in ages.... time to relive all the old nostalgia.

One of Apogee's best old sidescrollers, which says a lot considering the awesome games they were always coming out with back in the early 90's.

Re: Bio Menace released as freeware!
Man thank you 3drealms I love this game , I'll be honest, back when I had a shareware disk with duke I, II, bio menace, and all these games, I thought bio menace was stupid and weird (the game kinda scared me back then tee hee). Once I installed this and learned how to use the patch with dosbox and I finally got my gamepad to work without the game locking up (which took me about 5 minutes ), I was in heaven.

Duke II will always be my most favorite dos shooter of all time, but it is now safe to say that bio is better than duke 1 in my opinion, AND YOU ARE STILL SELLING THAT GAME WHILE BIO MENACE IS FREE!!!!

I love the mechanics, the music is somewhat catchy, usaully fitting in with the level, the city environments are cool , and shooting up the enemies is just too fun, although some parts are weird (like skull man lol), and the controls are alittle less stable than the sidescroll dukes, it is amazing how this free game already tops other old titles that aren't free, and I'm not just talking about dos titles . Thx again 3drealms, happy holidays and have a happy new year everybody!!!

BTW, I made a topic on this, but will Alien Carnage (Halloween Harry if you will) ever see the light of day again? I miss that game, and I can't find any downloads to freeware or shareware links to that game on your site, I know it was discontinued, but I thought it could still be downloaded or something, either way, thx again.

John Passfield owns the rights to Alien Carnage. I approached him about a freeware release and he said he was interested in doing that. I recently had an opportunity to interview him and he said that he's trying to get a handheld release of the game before he decides on the fate of the original.

I have a few questions regarding the Ted5 editor:

* How can you play your custom levels?
* How can you make doors 'openable'?
* Where do you define where you exit the level, and what level to load next?

it looks awfully complicated, but it's a lot of fun

Hmm, I don't remember any secret levels back when I played the shareware episode, I guess I should look harder

In any case it would be a tough job to beat Tyrian for number of secret levels. (ducks rotten tomatoes for mentioning an Epic game)
