<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Bad example. It wasn't the Bond franchise's decision to change Bonds. Connery left that franchise. Did Remedy birth A.I. in Max, and their digital creation walked off the set?

Maybe the answer is that Sam Lake decided to nix a second go-around with Remedy, and took his likeness with him. I wouldn't know why, but maybe he didn't sign up for Max Payne 2. The only thing else I can think of right now (besides Max now looking like the actor portraying him in the movie) is that the person we're seing in those shots isn't Max, and that we play another character for a portion of the game.

There's got to be a logical reason behind the change. Otherwise, it's stupid. Why make him look completely different?

sam lake still is the leadwriter, so it can hardly be said that he walked off and 'took his idea with him'. i have my own little theory: maybe it was never intended to model max payne after sam lake. maybe it was simply the easiest way in terms of the budget. first works rarely get the budgets they need and therefore they possibly put the idea aside of using professional actors. i somewhere snapped the information that all of the characters in mp I were modeled after family members, friends and colleagues of sam lake, which i guess he counted as a favor. i doubt they were paid for what they did. now, after the massive success of the first part, remedy surely had a little more money to spend and that’s why they probably hired professional actors – something they maybe wanted to do all along.

To be honest, the more I see the new Max, the more I like it. Sam Lake was like the younger and more rebel phase of Max´s life while this one is older, mature and deadlier

I can't help, but i see two different models.

is the guy with the beretta\sawed-off really the same as the one with the colt commando\pump gun\ingrams? the first one looks older, imho.

It's weird but the way the guys are holding their guns and the way their posture looks, seems almost exactly like in the Half-Life2 videos. The fat guy even reminds me of Barney. Also the vid captures seem done in the same style as Half-Life2, instead of just releasing regular screens. Coincidence? [img]images/icons/tongue.gif[/img] [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

I'm sure it will be a cool game (and I surely will buy it) but Max isn't max, any more, to me. I find this somehow disappointing and it will surely take me quite some time to get used to it.

BTW about the James Bond discussion: I always loved about video/computer games that you did NOT have to change actors..

Just my personal opinion take on this guys but it seems like the last two shots feature a Max with a more than passing resemblance to the original Max Payne face and very unlike the 'older' Max on the first two shots. I think there's the possibility that there are two Max Payne models and that there are flashbacks within the game.

But, come on, you have to understand that time has passed and technology has improved so that they could build a more realistic face which still resembles Max.

Um...but Sami Jarvi IS Max, so how can this new face be more realistic?

That said, and I don't know if anyone has brought this up yet, I think that the story-reason for this change is that Max had to get plastic surgery as an easy way to deal with his past. I'm sure Woden would rather just pay for that and give a new identity than deal with all the legalities. He probably breaks Max out of Jail, gives him surgery, and then gets killed by someone who knows what has happened, forcing Max to hunt that person down before they blow his cover.

Or maybe Max just didn't feel pretty enough anymore...?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Sam Lake is not an actor. to be honest, with the immense increase of photorealism in max payne 2 i can somehow understand that he didn't want to be the main face again, that can be seen in 1.000.000+ kids rooms by 1.000.000+ people. (if that has been a reason)

besides i'm quite sure the remedy guys (and especially sam) have had enough thoughts about a new thrilling storyline that will also reveal what happened, and why we are to play this (older) max now.
we'll see and get to play all of this soon enough. after almost 2 years of waiting now, another 3 months won't hurt i think. (at least me)

As for the whining, we'll stop whining eventually, but the issue will remain just as relevant. The point is that Sami is Max, and now we have to adjust to a new face *without having been given a reason for it*. If they told us why he looks different, even from a business standpoint (leaving out important story information), it would be easier to accept, I think. The new look is cool, but it's not Max - yet.
