as far as I'm aware for current popular series for '07 and '08 would be;

Clannad / True Tears / Shigofumi / Spice and Wolf / Shakugan no Shana II / Mobile Suit Gundam 00.

There's probably a few more though. Unless you mean recent popular completed series then there is qute a lot about. Best I recommend would be;

Gurren Lagann / Claymore / Baccano! / Dennou Coil / Seirei no Moribito / Darker Than Black / Higurashi Series / Sola.

I could probably give a more detailed list some other time though. As for manga, I don't read much so I don't know too well.
