Hmm, so you can play all other games that use DX8?

Operation Flashpoint.

Do other games run ok?

If yes, then try installing DX8.0 that comes with the game. If that fails, then try DX8.0a.

If that fails, get a new card.

A geforce card, GTS/deluxe/pro/ultra.

The banshee is one of the cards that the Read Me states may have issues with Max Payne.. To Quote;

"The following unsupported 3D Accelerators may work with Max Payne, but all game visuals may not be correct and performance may be unsatisfactory:

3dfx Voodoo2
3dfx Voodoo Banshee
Intel i810
Matrox G200 "

So I would say your card will give you probs indefinately..

Make sure you have an AGP slot before you go buy the NVidia card, possibly if your machine is running a banshee, your mobo may not have an AGP slot, that's an even bigger disappointment to get a piece of hardware home, humming with anticipation only to find out there is no place for it to go.. I came ]this[ close to doing just that a year or so ago.. Those NVidia cards are nice, but they pretty much have left out anyone who has no AGP slot, and V5 5500 pci cards are not the dogs they are purported to be, tho if the rest of your system is weak, they can never make up the difference as with any video card.. I have a Voodoo5 55oo pci and it looks and plays awesome.. I've since upgraded my mobo and proc and will most likely buy a GeForce3 eventually, but Nvidia is gonna have to take on some assimilation of reality with their price first..

Reread the minimum system requirementss, possibly this game may be a lil advanced for your machine.. Til 2 weeks ago, it was for mine..
