High Resolution Pack. Step by step
Greetings to all and a very happy new year!
I remember playing Duke Nukem 3D back in 1997 (I was in eight grade) and It made a huge mark in my gaming history (All other fps would be compared to it. Well...until Half Life but still). Now I found out about this High Resolution Pack. I looked some videos and pictures and it looks AMAZING (actually, it looks like I remember Duke Nukem 3D back in 97, your mind can play tricks on you. All that sprite work is not goint to work for me anymore) The problem is, I don't know how to use it correctly! I downloaded the pack: sd_duke.zip, etc I have a version of the game that runs perfectly on Windows XP (it has the DUKE3D.GRP). I changed some variables inside the duke3d.def (mainly loadgrp duke3d_hrp.zip include duke3d_hrp.def but still. It doesn't work) What I'm asking as a favor from all of you, is to post a step by step guide on how to do this. I found some answers on the forums, but nothing resembling a well made guide. (If it is one already, I apologize, please send me the link for it?) Maybe I'm doing something really stupid, or the pack doesn't work with my XP-ready Duke Nukem 3D, I don't know...but still, a step by step guide would surely help everyone with a problem similar to mine. I thank you all in advance! Regards, Leo |

Re: High Resolution Pack. Step by step
Ok I found this bit of help:
1. Download the latest version of eDuke32 from http://wiki.eduke32.com/stuff/eduke3...t_20070901.zip and copy the contents in the .zip file you just downloaded into a folder. 2. Place your DUKE3D.GRP file into that folder 3. In that folder, make a folder named Autoload and in that folder, make a folder named DUKE3D.GRP and place the HRP .zip file in there. 4. Run eDuke32.exe and have fun!! I later says: When you start eDuke32.exe, go into Options>Video Setup and change Video Mode to 32 - Bit. Also you can change Resolution to 1280 x 1024 for maore detail. (I did all that) I think that maybe the problem is that I dont have eDuke32.exe. I have duke3d_w32.exe ... Compatibility issue? Because for the live of me I cant find the "Options>Video Setup and change Video Mode to 32 - Bit" part inside the game. All it lets me do is increase the resolution, no Video Mode anywhere.

Re: High Resolution Pack. Step by step
duke3d_w32.exe is the rancidmeat binary (another port) and doesn't support the HRP. eduke32.exe is in the archive you linked in step 1) ( http://wiki.eduke32.com/stuff/eduke3...t_20070901.zip ).

Re: High Resolution Pack. Step by step
Awesome ! It WORKS !!!
I want to congratulate everyone involved in this project. Everything looks amazing compared to the original (I would have never played the original now, in 2008) I'm already in the 4th level, and I'm having the same fun I had 10 years ago! You guys rock.

Re: High Resolution Pack. Step by step
Well, actually you don't need a how-to-do list because it's quite simple: Put the eduke32.exe (and probably it's setup.exe, too) and the original duke3d.grp file into one folder, the zipfiles into autoload subdir within that dir. It should work right away.

Re: High Resolution Pack. Step by step
You are probably right, but I did look around for a while because I could not figure out how to start using the pack.
A step by step STICK thread could be useful to new members or users? I'm just saying.

Re: High Resolution Pack. Step by step
I will probably add another section to the FAQ on my site...

I suggest that part of the FAQ explain what causes common problems, like the typical issues people have relating to def files, SD_Duke, etc. A lot of people don't even understand that SD_Duke is a mod and isn't actually part of the HRP. Then we can link to it we people have difficulties.

Re: High Resolution Pack. Step by step
I think someone should make a very detailed HRP thread and maybe TerminX would sticky it for everyone.
