Apogee released ROTT not 3D realms. Incidentally Apogee are also making the Duke Nukem trilogy, so ROTT did still fund the duke

Technically 3DR still owns Apogee but i doubt the iPhone version of ROTT could fund DNF considering (in Australia) it costs $5.99.

No, the new Apogee is a different company. But I doubt they get to license 3DR IP for free. Not that the Iphone port of ROTT makes any kind of appreciable difference for DNF.

3DR is actually just a trading name for Apogee, an alias. That's why Apogee is named in the court docs. Apogee LLC however is a different company. They just paid to use the name.

Apogee still have to pay to use ROTT and DN ip's so some royalties will go to 3DR so it indeed could go onto DNF and the lawsuit.

ROTT was the first game I bought (it cost me my 20-month allowance in 1995) - I play it still to this day during coffee breaks on DosBOX. If I had a iphone I would buy it.

Re: Some more money for Duke Nukem Forever, thanks to the relese of ROTT on the istuf
If Duke 3D is selling well on the Iphone along with ROTT, 3drealms is probably making some decent coin. You also have to take into consideration Duke 3D is doing extremely well on Xbox Live. It's certainly within reason that they've made a few million bucks on those releases as well. Don't know how much Microsoft or Apple takes a cut but 3dr has *made* substantial money and you begin to wonder if it's in fact enough to get DNF done. They'll also get more revenue flow when DN:MP hits Xbox Live(worst secret ever!).

Duke3D on arcade however has sold pretty decent i think, but I don't think these releases even come close to the 6 million required to finish duke nukem forever, However, if they can persuade a independent game developper which has some spare funds and splitting the royalties between them, it could work out... But my hopes are almost completely gone... I'm looking forward to other great PC games like starcraft 2, diablo 3, crysis 2 and mafia 2...

My fingers will newer touch SC2 or D3 even if those would be the best games ever made - it would be like eating a cookie with Bob Kotick shit on top - You can scrub the shit out but the cookie will always smell bad.

Re: Some more money for Duke Nukem Forever, thanks to the relese of ROTT on the istuf
Likewise, I'll never support a game which is a part of anything that he also is... but does he have anything to do with Blizzard's side of things? I would think he doesn't. I'd still play the game, but no way I'd consider giving my money to any company that benefits ActiVision as long as their mentality and fuhrer are as it is now.
edit: Ok, I just checked it up and found Blizzard to be a subsidiary of ActiVision. I had thought that they were kind of operating as two separate companies in a partnership, not one being owned by the other.

Re: Some more money for Duke Nukem Forever, thanks to the relese of ROTT on the istuf
Blizzard and Activision are both subsidiaries of Activision-Blizzard, which is in turn majority owned by Vivendi, Blizzard's former owner.
