Re: New gameplay video on Gamespot
Awesome, awesome trailer. My hype for the gameplay (which I was worried about, since aside from portals looked derivative of Quake 4) went up 200%.

Everyone needs to download that trailer NOW.

Re: New gameplay video on Gamespot
There's something that's been bothering me about FPS's lately. We'll take Doom 3 as an example. i'm not going to add spoilers, because I'm sure ALL of you have played through Doom3 by now. If not.... thenskip my post.

Ok, on the cover of the doom 3 box, it basically showed EVERY MONSTER IN THE GAME. That, along with the videos released pretty much ruined any chance of me being 'surprised' by cool new monster. I mean, look at your doom box. (Not including bosses) the only monsters that AREN'T there are the mancubis, Wraith, Tick, maggot, and Cherub, and Archvile. That's a whopping SIX monsters that weren't spoiled right off the bat (Although, I'd just say 5... I never noticed any REAL difference between the Trite and Tick). AND, the OFFICIAL video's spoiled the Wraith, Cherub, and Archvile. So that leaves three.

So, this worries me.

This question is really directed at the devs, but you guys can put in your input, too.

But, should I really be watching these videos? Are they going to spoil the monster variety ala Doom 3? Or are you guys going to hold back more, and save alot more for us?

Sorry, but this is something that's been bothering me for awhile.

Oh...
...and there WILL be gibs... right? RIGHT?

Neptune... if you already know you are going to buy it I'd avoid them if you want to be suprised as much as possible. You will get to experience the cool-factor by your own hand as opposed to watching someone else do it, which is way better.

Trust me.

If you are on the fence about buying it still, then I'd say give it a whirl.

Captured in fraps at 1280x720 res. The game certainly runs very fast on high end systems, at that res, and very well on mid-range hardware. Fraps is pretty system intensive, capturing video and thrashing the hard drive, so that's what it is. We need to build a capture machine with a 10k or 15k rpm drive in it, and that would help a lot.

EDIT: Hmm.... It ISN'T a ghost. But what the heck is it? Steam?

I find it amusing how the same company can be critized for not releasing enough media for DNF, yet at the same time be critized for releasing too much for Prey.

Don't rely on a Prey demo, Scott might decide not to release one if he sees that the videos are doing well the Job of attracting more and more gamers around the world.

What? Haha. I really like how you make it seem like Scott actually said that.

The demo will come, that is guaranteed. What is not certain is whether it will be released before or after the game.

I'm not worried anymore about all cool ideas being spoiled, because I'm convinced there is a lot being kept under wraps.
Now I'm worried about: Won't the game feel like a compilation of all videos released so far, with a bit of filler between them?
With Half-Life 2, they released media in the exact same way as you did: 2-3 minutes of different parts in the game. It happened a lot I recognized certain places, and then I looked forward to the next part of one of the videos. It isn't really a fun feeling, because it feels like a best-of compilation with filler between them, then

Sure a demo is coming but I was referring to the game pre-release time frame.

Well the videos that are going to be released soon will refer to wich time frame? pre-release right?

Did you spot the if statement? wich connect the demo and the videos to the same time frame!

Amazing!!! I can finally call a game ****ed up in a good sense again. Only those 3 mins showed the most unique gameplay i've seen in years, or ever maybe.

The Tommy voice acting is cheesey, thats a shame. Basicly the text, not the voice.

That's why we're releasing a demo of Prey before the game comes out, and I feel very strongly that the demo will be our most important marketing tool for the game, by a long shot.
What I meant is that the upcoming videos might be enough to market the game without releasing a demo before the game comes out. I guess this is one of the options Scott has in mind.

i really didn't expect something bizarre like that. you see human head had the time to focus on the important things of a game, variety in gameplay on a new level. with an already good engine base and enough time they show off a lot of talent.

Good to hear that , but I can't see why the videos would fail. Prey is doing tremendous Job in showing one hell of a unique gameplay.

You gotta understand that 3D Realms and HHs are releasing these gameplay videos because they are too afraid that people will take Prey as just another Doom 3 clone. I've been through some message boards and some people are giving their optimism over Prey since it seems to them like "another plain old shooter" and "A Doom 3 Clone." If I was in 3D Realms shoes, I too would have released some videos showing that Prey is something new and unique. And certainly worth checking out.

No he doesn't like the fact that they are releasing so much media.

Now as for you not liking the fact that it's subscriber only for the high res video then you only have to wait a couple of days before it gets released publicly. It's really not that big of a deal.

I haven't seen the new video, but after having seen all the others up undtil now, I was thinking about not seeing anymore and leave the remaining content to surprise me, when I finally play the game.

So, I'm gonna follow Wieders good advice here and stay away from any new Prey material undtill I've completed the game!
