The recreation of the core game is flawless, and has been tuned perfectly for the Xbox 360 controller.
They gave it an 8 out of 10.

Other companies can learn from a score like this. Essentially the same game and it gets great reviews. Why? Because one, it always was a great game, made right to begin with. And two, you guys didn't go and try to fix something that wasn't broken.

I've been playing this the last couple of days, and honestly, I'd forgotten what a work of genius this game was. I haven't really played it since the late 90s, but there are several ways that it's still superior to anything that's been put out since. If in DNF you guys can actually deliver a modern day equivalent with updated graphics, tweaked controls, and a bit more of a story, the last 10 years of waiting will be forgotten and you'll have a huge hit on your hands.

This 360 port is of the Atomic Edition, correct? I'm seeing some aliens that don't appear in my original PC version.

A friend on Live who I haven't talked to in a while sent me a message while I was playing tonight. "It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all outta gum." There's not much that gamers remember more fondly than their time with DN3D.

Correct. When we started work on this, we started with the materials from our archives as we left them in November 1996, the last time we messed with the game.

8/10 is great

Though I don't play games based on their review scores.

I remember one post that said this game will attract new Duke Nukem fans. Who ever posted that is a genius! I love this game!
"Your face, your ass, what's the difference?"
"Wow, that's one doomed space marine!"
"I'm gonna' rip off your head and shit down your neck!"
The Get Smart part of "It's Impossible."
The "J. McClain" police office desk, followed by "Yippe ki yay mother"Beep"!" (They censored it, wtf?)
This game is full of memorable moments!
Now, on too Duke Nukem Forever! (Oh boy.)

1up liked it. Gave it an A- and said it does things that games don't do today.

Re: TeamXbox Review of Duke3D
I am sorry, but an 8 out of 10 is BS.

I've been waiting for this game to come to XBLA since they released Doom and saw the potential Duke had on XBLA.

And 3DRealms DID NOT disappoint! Maybe I am fanboy geeking out over here but in the area of Xbox Live Arcade games this is hands down the BEST arcade game on XBox period. It has everything AND more, while some people can nitpick (I know there are a few things I still wish would be added hint hint) but this game has 8 player COOP which is still pretty much unheard of on games that come out now a days, awesome online/offline play, clip sharing and from the get go it WORKED to play online *cough*MR Driller*cough*Castle Crashers*cough*

So in my honest opinion, even if I wasn't a huge fan of Duke and if this was my first time playing it, I would easily give it a 9/10 and as far as XBLA games go this would easily be 10/10

Then to top it off, achievements! While I wish they would have increased the ranked kills achievement and made some achievements a little bit harder/more time invested to get, this will still be one game I play long long after getting 200/200

/end fanboyism rant

Speaking of achievements, we wish we weren't bound to 12 - that's an XBLA rule. We wanted to have a lot more than that.

Really? Could you possibly share what some of those ideas you might have had for other achievements? Sorry for going off-topic, just that I am a huge 360 achievement whore (noticed I was ranked #1 on these forums! )

I don't recall offhand, since we knew we were limited to 12, ideas beyond that didn't get very far. You needed one or two that were brain dead easy (most every game seems to have a couple of those), plus you kind of needed one for finishing each episode (that's 1/3 of your achievement allotment right there). So now we're 50% done. Need a few for multiplayer (now at 9/12)...

Get my point?

That really sucks Joe, why a limitation of 12? By the way, Duke3D for xbla is quite possibly the greatest thing to ever happen to consoles. I can provide anecdotal evidence of this in the following manner: I come home from work yesterday to find that my girlfriend had wholeheartedly embraced the game, and got mad at me when I asked (after about 30 minutes, mind you) if it was "my turn yet?"... (to give you an idea of what a monumental occurence this was; my gf didn't know what fps stood for before firing up D3D). Sharing classic gaming moments that helped shape who I am today with my girlfriend was a joyous experience - I damn near shed a tear.

12 is the number Microsoft imposes on XBLA titles.
