Sigh, I go away for a week or two and this thing goes balls up.

I guess that's to be expected when it's forum based.

Okay, I'm going to revise the guidelines a little, in an attempt resolve a few issues that have been brought up. If things don't get back on track soon, I'll lock the thread, and attempt to prune the irrelevant posts. If it's too much of a mess, I may just leave it locked.

-WHICH PREFABS?


This was mainly intended for MaxED prefabs, but kf2 meshes and animations are welcome too. If it's related to Max Payne modding, and you think it might be of use to other people, upload it.


Limit it to objects though -- tutorials, videos, code, mods and the like should be posted in a new topic.


-WHERE CAN I UPLOAD PREFABS?


The forum lets you upload files up to a maximum file size of about 100kb. Over that, and you'll have to find your own file hosting.


Having said that, I'm pretty sure that if you ask biXen, or someone at Levels4You they'll gladly host it for you. Failing that, try asking other prefab makers (via pm) where they get their file hosting.


-COMMENTS, QUESTIONS, FEEDBACK, CRITS, ETC


If you want feedback or wip suggestions, create a new topic for it. When it's ready for download, link it here so people can find it quickly.


If you have a question or comment, either pm the person it's aimed at, or create a new thread for it. I don't want this thread to get clogged up with idle chit-chat. (Again )


-TERMS & CONDITIONS


Alright, use some common sense here guys.


All prefabs posted here will be assumed to be available for royalty free, non-commercial use only, unless stated otherwise. That means a user can download and do whatever they want with it, provided that they do not attempt to make a profit out of it.


In other words, I don't want to see selfish conditions tacked onto prefabs (like, "you can't use it with this type of mod", etc). If you're not happy with this then simply don't upload it.


-REDISTRIBUTION


Regarding redistribution (i.e. sites like Paynereactor and L4Y uploading mirrors): Sites should be free to upload mirrors to prefabs without having to ask; provided that:

-The author doesn't state otherwise
-It's available by non-comercial/non-profit means (i.e. it's free to download )
-The file is identical to the original
-The original author MUST be credited, if known. If the author is not known, then you state this and leave it open for them to claim/prove authorship.


If you release a modified version of another author's prefab, you should credit them also.


-CREDIT


Regarding distribution in levels and mods: It is common courtesy to credit/thank the authors who took the time to make the prefabs you're using. However it is understandable that this is not always possible and/or practical.


With this in mind, I think it's fair that the user should credit prefab authors to the extent that *they* feel is sufficient. In other words, it is not necessary to list every single prefab used and their author; however it would be advised that you try to list the names of the authors, or as biXen mentioned, list where you got them from so that other users can look them up themselves.


Either way, you're encouraged to make some kind of effort. Also if you happen to modify someone else's prefab, you would be advised to credit them also.

In addition, authors of prefabs are encouraged to supply some sort of documentation, in the form of a readme file, or as a comment in an FSM (you can do comments with #).


-PLAGERISM


What isn't acceptable is plagiarism. That is, claiming credit for work that is not your own. It's normally easy to spot, and often frowned at. You do so at your own risk.


Before you start witch hunting, be sure you know the difference between the two. Plagiarism is falsely claiming credit, and is punishable by death. ;0 Merely forgetting to credit someone isn't.


Again use some common sense and courtesy here. If you're going to be selfish, or picky over who gets to use your prefabs then you may as well not bother posting them.

It was bugging really bad soooo I chopped it lower a little, muscled up the hood a bit, replaced the tires, and made the flashers flashier (bigger) and am done with it finally!

this prefab is of a fire escape that falls when max stands on it. The escape retracts after 3 seconds to its upright position.


Here is an ingame picture of the prefab.

Looking at max's foot, you can tell the approximate size of the instrument. It is fairly small. There is no physics at this time because the collision stuff just wouldnt cooperate. Enjoy !

What's taking the update so long biXen .

I was wondering if anyone had some plant prefabs or a telephone prefab (like the one max uses in his house) lying around somewhere. I really could use, and I am working so hard on other maps that I don't have the motivation to make the prefabs .

Currently nowhere. That's just screenshot from my level (as example for Kozak), where I use it. But if there're enough people interested of it I may release it sooner.

That haven't got much attention lately, because I've been concentrating to levels, but it's true and there are few people who have tested it too, so it works. It's also in my Civil Unrest level.

I've planned getting my own domain and make better version of Paynestore there whit my other projects (non MP related). So when I get that site up, I'm also going to finish the tutorial.

About scripting escalators, there are 2 ways to do it and both takes much time, scripting and planning.

Yup, quite complicated.

Say you had 10 steps in the escalator. That means you will probably need to script 12 or 13 steps because 1 or two will be vanishing as they go under the end of the escalator, the other two will be added at the top. As soon as a step vanished underneath, it will be brought back to the top through a split-second keyframe and "fed back" into the escalator. Finally, each and every single step will have between 10-13 animations keyframes (depending on how many keyframes you have).

I'll see if I can make one with like 5 steps and upload it to illustrate my point. Its difficult, but it isn't impossible by any means.

EDIT: Also, I just realized: you can make the first step go through 10 animations say step_Anim1 through step_Anim10. And then you can copy paste it with the second step starting at step_Anim2 and looping back. The thirs etsp starts at step_Anim3... and so on and so forth. This may be easier that I initially thought. I will definity upload a working model in a few hours.

That's right, I think I have 5 extra "steps" top and bottom of the escalator to make sure it runs smoothly. I can release the small level, where you can see how it works.

5 extra on both top and bottom? You sure? The way I am imagining it, you will need no more than 1 step on either side. Imagine it this way the escalator has 5 steps already IN it. When they start animating, there is one at the top (the top_extra one) that starts coming out, by the time it has fully come out, the last one of the original five steps has already gone under the front. It can be split_second animated to the top and it starts coming out right behind the top_extra one. Dig?

Yes, I know. That version was actually first version I tried, the current version works differently. Since there are 2 ways, one where actually steps move and one where invisible slides moves I made the slides all start from same point and they start moving in different intervals.

I've only animated steps, but you could use texture animation for handrail.

When using slides and animating them correctly, you wont have problems whit invalidposition

Well here is an example. It took me 15 minutes to make it. It is very crude, but it works.

THE MP2M:
Start it. Go to the other room. There is a trigger at the bottom of the steps. Press "Use" there and the escalator will animate. Get it here.

THE LVL2:
Go to the other room. Hide ALL static meshes. You will see 10 steps. Look at their animations, coding and default keyframes. You will get the idea. It is quite simple to build. Get it here.

The problem mentioned above, the one with the character interfering with the animations exists in this example. If you stand in front of the steps, the animation for that step will pause for as long as you are blocking it, thereby ****** up the entire escalator. I'll see if I can find a solution for that...

That's prevented making invisible collision triangles, so they "slide" under character, thus preventing problems whit steps.

Chracter collides Uisor, I know. But that wont work Since it the character is standing on top of them, then the steps will animate, but the character will not move as he will be standing atop the static character collide mesh.

Or am I missing something here?

Nope, you're right there, that's why each step needs it's own collision mesh grouped whit it. Ofcorse this gives problem whit triangle mesh when step reaches top/bottom and so it needs to have it's own animation too, which makes it go "down".

I made an updated version of the Valkyr Cannister from the Max 1 prefabs. Although I had to redo it from scratch since the original was booleaned together.

With this new one, the cannister glass will break and spill the Valkyr then the left over casing becomes physical. This prefab zip is attached to the post.

Note its the first real prefab I've put together, so it might be a bit rough.
