Windows 8 "Refresh" feature: could it replace clean installs?

It goes without saying that computers often become sluggish after years of use. This is because a lot of junk remains in the system even if the user removes programs that they no longer use, and the only way to get the compouter up to speed would be a clean install.

However, Windows 8 will have a feature that allows the user to "refresh" a computer without removing their personal files. Could this make clean installs a thing of this past? If so, it could be very useful!

I've been using PS CS5 and Dreamweaver through VM running through my school's computers. I was going to bite the bullet and buy the stuff for my classes. But now I'm amazed at the potential for cloud based applications.

Rather than clogging up our machines and having to reload and continually upgrade our machines, it seems VM is a helluva alternative.

Seems like a pretty good thought to have a feature like that. Especially since Microsoft keeps getting picky on clean installs with Windows 7 (I've had to make at least two phone calls to their crummy Indian tech support to manually activate Windows when I clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate on hard drive reformats/restructurings).

I seen a post about "Sandboxie" in which you can isolate the install from the OS completely. There must be some drawbacks - seems like one of those apps that makes the program more "portable" and there is always limitations doing that.
