Prey Start up issue... Mouse-Cursor

I recently got Prey for my PC and I'm having an issue that I haven't seen addressed anywhere as yet, though I have been searching the internet extensively for an answer.

When I start up Prey, it boots up and shows the main title screen with the "New Game, Load Game, Multi-prey" menu, music plays and all looks fine... however, the mouse-cursor is in the upper left-hand corner of the screen and if you even barely nudge the mouse, the cursor zips diagonally down across the screen to the lower right-hand corner and disappears... never to be seen again.

No buttons on keyboard allow me to select any of the menu options, however I can use Ctrl+Alt+~ to access the console window... so by that, I know it is not completely frozen.

In the event that it will help with a solution, spec's on my system/setup are as follows:

4890 Radeon x2 crossfire
Intel(R) Core i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67 Ghz
6 Gig of RAM
Windows Vista 64bit
Wireless Mouse and Keyboard
Monitor is a 50" 1080i plasma tv.

Any other info needed, please let me know... I'm not super tech-savvy but I can follow instructions very well.

I'm dying to play this game and any help on getting it to work would be greatly appreciated.

Did you install the patch for the game?

Nope... I just installed it straight from the discs...

Download the 1.4 patch, install it, then try again.

Patch didn't do the trick... but there is one thing that I might have overlooked when describing the issue. I don't know if this is right or wrong, but it might have some bearing on the issue.

When title/menu screen comes up, the picture might be over-sized... I don't know what the title screen is supposed to look like, but what I see is just the letters "PRE".. as if the pic is too big for the screen and they "Y" is cut off. Is that the way it's supposed to look?

If not, could this be part of the complication that I'm experiencing?

Also, had a friend tell me that the wireless mouse may be causing a problem... dunno about that.. but I figured I'd throw that out there.

Yeah, you should see the whole word "PREY" when it starts up. About the wireless mouse being a problem I have no idea. I wouldn't think it would be a problem, as many on this forum use wireless mice and have done so with prey. The only other thing I can think of is in almost every thread where there's a problem they say to "make sure all your drivers are up to date". It could also be a conflict with your video drivers, as some games seem to have this issue with both ATI and nVidia vid cards (I recently had to use an older driver than the one that's available casue a game of mine quit working when I updated the vid driver). Other than that, I'm out of ideas. Hopefully someone else can pop in to give further aid, just wish I had been more help.
