My bonus challenge
These days, I played the original ROTT under Dosbox and decided to do a little challenge: trying to get the maximum amount of bonuses for every level in Crezzy mode to get a very high score. All that without cheating. For some levels, it's impossible to get the famous "Bonus Bonus" as there may be missing elements on the level preventing to do a specific bonus. For example, if there's no plants on the level, I can't get "Repulican Bonus 2".
If you're meticulous, you may notice something wrong going with a particular bonus... No? You don't catch? I'm talking here about the "Ground Zero Bonus". As I said earlier, I'm playing in Crezzy difficulty mode, not Easy one. And well, under that difficulty, a FireWall missile is deadly, even at full health, unless wearing an Asbestor armour. But some levels don't have such an armour, so how did I get that bonus on these levels without dying? No, I don't cheat! In fact, I'm using the exploit of a little glitch. I let you guess. For now, I'm playing the Deluxe Shareware version of ROTT and here are the results so far. Next, I'm gonna play the Registered version. These screenshots have been taken from Dosbox and haven't been "Photoshoped" at all. I swear! Here are the first 4 levels: The HUNT Begins Prelude to a Kill Jumpin' Jehoshaphat GADZOOKS!

Re: My bonus challenge
Hey DragonsLover, would you mind making a video of you doing the
bonus bonus stuff and posting it on youtube? I've never been able to do that, It would be cool to watch someone else do it. You could use fraps to make the recording.. |

Re: My bonus challenge
I think DragonsLover should be the person to test if the bonus bonus works on win rott gl.

Re: My bonus challenge
To DragonsLover, you could just make a recording save file (alt-r) then
I could just play it back in my copy of winrottgl... |

Re: My bonus challenge
Thats a great idea, that should also make it so you can test the rest of the bonus's aswell.

Re: My bonus challenge
Wow! Thanks!
You know, it's not as hard as it may seem. If you're a bit careful, it's easy. And it's not all levels where it's possible. I'll be glad to record a video to do the bonus bonus (even though there's already someone that did it). You'll be able to see how I do the "Ground Zero Bonus" trick in Crezzy mode (however, I'll have to save my game before doing it because of its deadly nature. I hope WinRottGL can still record after loaded saved games). Unfortunately, for now, my computer is dead (I'm using my father's computer right now). I'm gonna get a brand new computer that will support OpenGL just fine. Then, I'll do the recordings. However, in the meanwhile, I don't have a YouTube account and apparently, it requires a Google account to be registered, and I don't want one. What can I do?

Re: My bonus challenge
If you would rather not make a video due to problems with google etc,
you could just record your gameplay as demo file that anyone else could playback as long as they have the same version of winrottgl: Run winrottgl from the main window, go to 'settings' then 'general' from this window, you can set how much memory the demo should use, note that when you change the memory, the window beside it, will update the minutes the demo should play, here's some other commands: Alt+R to start recording Alt+E to end recording Alt+D to demo playback You then zip (or rar) if you wish your demo file, and post it where other people can download it. This process sidesteps having to make a actual video file. |

Re: My bonus challenge
All right! However, some more questions:
Should I record only on levels where the Bonus Bonus is possible (a few levels) or you want me to record my whole challenge (all levels)? If I stop recording and start recording again, does it overwrite the previous recording or it creates a new one?

Re: My bonus challenge
You would be asked what number the demo should be, so your previous
demos would only get overwritten if you specified the same demo number your old demo had. But you might want to wait a bit before doing this, I've discovered some demo related bugs in winrottgl 1.54 that makes the game not record everything you do during the recording process, and in the 1.56 beta I'm testing right now, the game crashes if I try to record a demo. So if you still want to do this now, you'll have to use fraps or some other similar utility to record a actual video, I have a youtube account, so once your done making your video, post it somewhere I can download it (filefront would be good), and I can post your video on youtube, it would be under my name, but I would make sure you get the credit on youtube. Filefront upload link: http://www.filefront.com/upload.php ---------- Post added at 06:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 AM ---------- Oops! I forgot to mention this, record your entire challenge please. |

Re: My bonus challenge
Hey DrgonsLover. Did you ever get around to making those demos? I'd love to see them if you have the time (and copmuter!).

Re: My bonus challenge
Are you talking about the FM hit trick or the challenge?
If it's about the challenge, sure, I can, but like I said, this is not the problem. If I do the "FW hit through exit gate" trick, I start the next level without any weapons until I die, preventing me to do the level correctly. It also brings another problem: if I die on the new level without doing a saved game, I restart the actual level with a pistol, which could make the challenge even harder and perhaps sometimes impossible. I'll try again to figure out a possible solution. If it's about to simply show the trick, I'll simply do it through my challenge. EDIT: Okay, I guess I have a solution. I just need to do some cheats to return back to normal after the bug occurs: PANIC - To get back the weapons JOHNWOO - For the extra pistol PLUGEM - For the MP40 machine gun BONES - To get back the FW, then I just need to shoot one or more missiles to get back to normal REEN - To restart the level And hey, presto, nothing happened!

Re: My bonus challenge
I read about a possible solution to this issue that involves programming,
I thought I sent birger a message about this some time ago, he hasn't responded yet, maybe in the next release, this will be corrected. |

Re: My bonus challenge
Sorry for bumping this, but I must say that your accomplishments with the bonuses, DragonsLover, are really awesome! ^_^ Perhaps you would still consider recording videos through DOSBox and uploading them on YouTube?
On another note, I find it a wonderful feature of ROTT that there's so much incentive to play the game through over and over again trying to get all the various bonuses and secrets. |

Re: My bonus challenge
Haha! Thank you!
Of course, I still plan recording videos to show how I solve the levels to get the maximum bonuses possible, but perhaps not under Dosbox. I would like to do it on WinRottGL, but there were some weird bugs that prevent me doing so. JBailey and Birgers are doing a good job to correct these, one after one so that when the version will be bugless, I'd be glad to restart my challenge.
