"Stealth'n around"
i want to know if you'll be able to hide behind stuff and sneak up on enimies.

like in halo 1...i would hide behind stuff and then take out people as silent as possible...even tho the game wasnt really a "stealth game" but it was fun...
Or in Deus Ex 2 i would try to do the same thing...

Well is it possible for me to be able to do that with Duke 4?Does anybody know?

Excerpt from the official Duke Nukem Forever FAQ:

2.32 - Will DNF have stealth missions?
Probably not. Supporting that assumption is a statement by George Broussard (on 07/12/02):

". . .I don't see Duke as much of a stelth guy. Is there anything more annoying or frustrating in a game than being seen in a game, hearing a siren, then seeing "Mission Failed"? I really don't think so."

well...the same can be said fro master chief but i was able to do that...
i dont mean like hearing sirens and seeing mission failed and whatnot. I just mean more along the lines of...
I would just like the ability to go thru the game and shoot everybody in the face and blast thru it...or on the other hand... hide behind slot machine and sneak up on a pigcop and slit his througt without making your presence known...

Duke is all about making his presence known

"I've come to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all outta gum!" - Do you think that's something a stealthy assassin would say? I think maybe looking for stealth elements in a Duke Nukem game is pushing it a little. I know you meant "having the possibility of playing through it sneaking", but implementing it and making it possible (and not lame, like in most games that add it "just because" [See GTA: San Andreas]) would just take more time and it's not a feature that would feel particularly right using, when you're wearing Duke's mighty boots. I think Duke as a character and as a series is more about jumping inside a room slinging rockets everywhere, or blasting at furniture and breakable props with a Shotgun, while killing enemies. Think about it

Personally I don't mind the stealth option as long as whether you get through the level or not doesn't depend on it. I haven't seen a game yet that doesn't do things very stupidly about stealth missions that need to be completed in that manner.

Your kill percentage would be weak if you choose to avoid battles!

return to castel wolfenstine had those missions, you get really far into and it saying mission failure you got to start over.

but stealth could prove to be a fun measure. for instance:

duke actually gets captured and is in a holding cell, he breaks out but he has and breaks the neck of a pigcop guard and gets his shotgun and pistol back, then he goes down the hall and steals a knife and slices the pigs throat and gets his rocket launcher and machine gun back.

and that duke decides to go back into action and doesnt need to be stealthy anymore and kills badies any ways he wants.

you could stealth grab a pigcop then when you hit the action key next duke flips out a pipe bomb and shoves it up pork bellies ass then kicks him a few feet forward. could be usefull in many segments..

George have said quite recently that there will be no sneaking, hiding, snipeing etc in DNF

i wouldnt mind some snipeing though, i think it can be fun

Um, with properly made AI that have ears and eyes that would be possible. I mean, it would be fun to be able to make a "fun" kill by dropping a pipe bomb behind a pig cop while he's unaware and stuff like that. Not whole missions, but the chance of being able to do it.

I'm just going to assume that you've never played Thief 1 or 2. Either that, or you're referring to a very specific subsection of stealth gaming (stealth in action games).

the best stealth game in the world and my personal favorite game of all time is metal gear solid: the twin snakes (gamecube). it had a assorment of weapons and enemies with weird names, but the thing i like is that you can choose to be stealthy or not, all you do is come out and kill everyone you see and then hide out until the heat blows over.

very good game, and im hoping there gonna make a mgs game for xbox 360 cause im not paying $600 for ps3.

Stealth? I think it could be cool. Let's say:

Fist Boss's level:
Duke begins right in his face, but with nothing but his mighty foot! Of course, Duke ain't going to face a big bad alien just with his foot, no matter how mighty it is. So Duke need to get a Rocket Launcher or the like, but there's only one and it's behind a locked door that requires Duke walking around the level to find it and blast the boss away.

Other situation that would require stealth is when Duke is on a level that, as soon a foe see duke, he goes for the alarm and when you know, the area is swarming with LOTS of aliens. So, if you wanted to survive, you needed to kill enemies by using stealth and such.

Re: "Stealth'n around"
If you try to sneak up on a Pig Cop, Duke will be noticed because of his random yammerings.

(You as Duke sneaks behind Pig Cop - Duke: "Borrrrn to be WIIIIIILD!" - Pig Cop turns around and shoots).

They're going to force battles on us, meaning crouch-walking might not help as much(even though it does make sense to affect AI alerts). The combat would be very open, without too many obstacles/crates to hide behind. You'd only find ornamental stuff that would look cool when destroyed.

Also good AI navigation may not mean taking potshots from behind crates as much as scripted stunts like superhuman leaps, flying and some wall-crawling/jumping. Check out any balls-to-the-wall action movie with aliens/non-humans dodging fire.

Duke doing that in the wrong moment is more like singing "Born to be FIREEEEED" xD.

hmm...that really makes it seem like DNF will end up being a serious sam type game rather than a halo or postal type game...
i dont like that idea....
because when you play postal ...you have options of playing..
Now i dont expect DNF to give me that option of going thru peacefully..
but i dont want to be "forced" into constant running and gunning...
thats not what DN3d was..for me it was more or less exploring and what not.
Like when you played turok on n64....you had an ultimate goal...but ways to get to it..
if that makes any sense..
