does prey work in vista?

i installed prey on my laptop with vista byt it dosent work.
when i hit ctrl+alt+del i see the task "prey" is there but nothing happens.

windows vista 32bit
geforce 8600 256mb
core2duo 2*2ghz
2gb ram

It works for me and I run Vista Home Premium 32bit.

When I had Vista and was playing through Prey a second time, it would crash once in a while, but not that often. I'm sure it's more stable now.

Most likely due your graphiccard drivers, nVidia by any chance?

Be sure to run Prey as administrator by right clicking Prey and clicking "Run as administrator".

yes i have nvidia 8600, but i think the problem is in the game cause thers no "run as admin"
i reinstalled the game but same pb

Prey works fine in Vista.

Punkbuster and Vista are terrible together, just make sure to run as admin or servers will kick you for lack of O/S privileges.

Or you could just disable UAC, because as a gamer it's only going to cause issues. Frankly I'm really confused as to why games need to be run with administrator privileges in the first place.

Try making a shortcut to Prey and making it run as admin... If there still isn't any option for this... Make sure you are doing this from an "Admin" account on your computer.

This problem seems to be a hugely widespead issue for a lot of people with the steam bought version running on Vista.

Why is there very little moderator support in these forums? It feels like they are just 'end of life-ing' this game right after 2k or 3dr put it up for bargain prices on steam. Great thinking guys, increase your user base and then don't bother supporting them. Way to make a positive impression on the masses.

Oh well, as if 3dr's name wasn't already trodden into the dirt a hundred times over with the everlasting DNF fiasco.

It is not down to 3D Realms on that case. You are aiming your frustration to the wrong place, if it doesn't work on _steam_, you should check the steam forums for advice. Since it works rather fine with me, I can't really tell what is wrong with it not working.

Vista 64-bit here.
