That's probably similar to saying a particular word (in your mind or out loud) over and over again and have it lose its cognitive meaning.

Your focussing so much on the individual parts that you can't see the whole anymore - i.e. you can't see the forest for the trees.

That's pretty much when you make something, and are so proud of it ("It's my baby!") that you cant take constructive ciriticism at all, or cant see what anyone else finds wrong with it.

I've had it before, and it can be a REAL pain in the ass, because you only realise how crap it ACTUALLY is when you're standing in front of the publisher with what's equivalent to an etch-a-sketch on the screen.

I seem to be doing a good job fighting this off with pessimism these days, though. [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

That happens to me a lot. [/QB][/quote]During the last stretch of testing for stability you don't spend any time looking at the gameplay or the magic anymore. You're just playing the game to make sure that it's stable, trying all different things to break it and verifying that everything works ok.

For the last two weeks, we had a grid with all the maps drawn on the wall, and when people had played through a map, they would draw their initials next to the mapname on the wall. (so that we could see that each map had been tested multiple times).

Whenever there was a new build of the game I cleaned the whiteboard and we had to get the initials back onto the wall, before we would declare the build as a release candidate.

It was really exhausting because at that point most of us had been working 16-18 hour days for quite awhile. There's really not that much magic at that point. But I do remember thinking that the game was pretty darn good :-)

with a GeForce4Ti 4200 8x AGP

and I can safely say:
Now Max Payne really kicks ass. The game was cool before but now with it running absolutely smoothly with everything turned to high quality ... wow. [img]images/icons/smile.gif[/img]
