Midi errors
I have a soundblaster 16 PCI 4.1 digital soundcard for my older comp, its great because it has drivers for dos and it even sound pretty nice.
It works so far for every apogee and 3dr game, cept Rise of the Triad. When I enter sound setup and select General Midi / Sound Canvas / Roland / anything along those lines and then select port 330 (which it is) it locks up and boots me out. I can get digital sounds, but I'd like to hear Rott's music with this souncard, duke3d sounds great. Can anyone help me? Is there a patch for this? |

Re: Midi errors
Your message is a little sparse to determine if you mean a
a 'true' older computer or a 'newer' older computer, if your trying to run the original version of the rott executable, then it should run on most pc's built around the early 90's, (and running nothing newer then win98 SE). But newer pc's will not run the original execuatable, it tends to lock up. The rott source code was released some time ago, and the executable that can be compiled will run on newer computers (mostly anyway). I am attaching a zip that contains a patch program, run it on your original rott.exe (after backing it up first) and it will modify the executable so it stands a better chance of running properly. If you try this and it doesn't fix your problem, let me know and we can try a newer version of the rott executable. jbailey |

Re: Midi errors
Sorry, thanks for replying....I've forgotten to keep checking back here. I'll try your patch later and tell you the results.
My Comp specs? Well, its old but not too old (works enough to run almost every dos game w/o probs) Pentium 2 Celeron 700mhz 192mb ram Onboard video (estimated 8mb?) Sound Blaster 16 PCI Digital 4.1 (the new sb16) Windows 98 (pre SE) See if midi is removed, the game runs flawlessly. There are no errors at all and digital sound works great. I'm not quite sure what the problem is since other games manage to see my card ok. One update though, I found Wacky Wheel seems to do the same thing....likes digital but not midi based. |

Also, its very important to have the proper "SET BLASTER" statement in your autoexec.bat file. Example: "SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 P330 E620 T6". Which roughly translates to A220 - found at address 220, I5 - IRQ 5, D1 - low DMA channel 1, H5 - High DMA channel 5, P330 - Midi Port 330 (Important) E620- Also related to Midi, though not sure exactly what, and T6 - version of Sound Blaster you have with 6 being the highest number and it would be the right one for your card (But you can experiment). This is all I can remember to help you out. I wouldn't select "Roland" or "Sound Canvas" if you don't have those cards. With the Sound Blaster you have, you can either select "Sound Blaster 16/Pro" for your Midi source (Which should work and will play midi music though probably not as good quality as selecting "General Midi"). Hope this helps! Let us know how it works out |

Re: Midi errors
Actually, my card doesn´t like any setting for music in rott. I can´t select anything without the setup locking up. The digital sound works fine, but no music what so ever.
