I'm excited to see if/how they've implemented the portal technology into the Doom 3 engine.

Very nice!

I hope the portal tech has carried over to the Doom3 engine. It seemed like it could create some very nice gameplay.

I believe subscribers get it "soon" and retail stores get it in early May (in the US)? Don't quote me on that, but I think it's pretty close.

This is video games - not politics. I think you put too much emphasis on people caring about a game or what happened to it.

- Prey was cancelled because it never came together. It had nothing to do with DNF. Both teams were separate.

- Why would anyone cancel a game, just to add programmers to another project? That would be stupid. You would simply hire more people.

- We started Prey to make money to fund DNF? That would be some mighty good planning since Prey started late 2001 or so, and we thought DNF would be done in 2001/2002, but it slipped and slipped.

No, there are no sinister motives here or secret agendas. We're just whacky dork developers that make mistakes like anyone else

But people like to interpret events in interesting ways. Really, we're quite boring and not nearly as devious as people make us out to be.

Which costs more money. The budget is stretched out as it is. You have to make layoffs to compensate for the new employees.

Is that hard to do? After Doom 3 was announced, your very reaction was, "nothing will touch Doom 3. Nothing" or something to that effect. You were impressed, and licensed the engine because you knew it would generate a profit in the long run, helping to cover the costs that DNF's development was generating.

it just seems like you have a case of sour grapes against 3dr when none of this really affects any of us as fans.

Charlie is mistaken (he wasn't here at the time and may have misunderstood some history). The entire Duke 3D team rolled into the Duke 3D exp pack, then some worked on very early DNF and some finished Shadow Warrior. Prey was entirely separate with it's own team of people. A couple of people that weren't needed for Shadow Warrior or the Duke expansion helped on Prey for maybe a couple of months.

Not true.

Bottom line...every theory you put forth in this thread is false. Except for maybe...we make games to profit by them?

Yes, two on the DNF team (as always), and the rest were on the Prey team (as always), but they were always separate groups of people on different games. Maybe you take things to literally?

Anyway, let's just stop discussing this now.

He said the 2 programmers for DNF happened durring the Quake 2 engine period. Not sure if this is true or false.

Which.... would be the point? If self funding your own games was so easy everyone would be doing it. Why bother with publishers at all? It just doesn't add up.

Lengis...

You're flogging the dead horse here. Being combative with the guys who make the game on the forum on their site isn't a wise choice. It's almost like you're wanting to challenge them, which is a bad move, especially if you're not in the game industry or work for them... You keep going as well, just end it already, you're annoying others. As a fan I'm here to talk about 3D Realms and their games, not about some conspiracy theory you cooked up trying to make them look bad. If you're gonna do it, keep it to yourself or discuss it behind close doors...

This is not a court of law, this is a friendly forum, we're not putting them on trial here.

Pull yourself together and shut up. Even if your theories should be true - no one cares!! As long as 3DRealms have the money to go on developing games I really could not care less how they do it or why. It's their business and I am pretty sure they know what they are doing.
