No progress beyond splash screen

Hi,

I have installed Max Payne. On loading, I cannot get beyond the splash
screen - I can hear the cd drive spin up, but gets no further.
I have also installed the patch 1.01.

two cd drives:
a rewriter: LTR 16101B Lite-on
and : Goldstar CRD 8160B

installed and patched using both drives: no success.

Voodoo 3, 16mb
Win 98SE, SB Live value
AMD t-bird 850, 128 MB

the issue is now resolved.

it seems the culprit was nero imagedrive which came with my cdr.
