A few Duke Nukem 3D level editing questions....
Pardon me if these questions are rather noobish, but I recently started toying around with Duke Nukem 3D level creation with Mapster32 and I have a few questions:
1.) When I build a door sector, like the doom style door, and apply a texture, I notice the door then extends all the way to the ceiling of the parent sector, how do a build a sector so that the door would say only scale say half the wall, and then you'd have the wall texture for the room (I have opened the official maps and still can't quite figure it out) - as far as I can tell this has not been addressed in any tutorial. 2.) How do I set background music for my level? Thank you in advance for any help you can provide. |

Book mark this site/guide. It has everything you need to know and uses pictures instead of just words. Plus some stuff.
http://infosuite.dukerepository.com/ For the music Q. rename you wanted music midi to the file name of your map. eg. mymap.map would be mymap.mid

Re: A few Duke Nukem 3D level editing questions....
If I am reading your question correctly, you want to have a door only go half way up the room? I don't think you can do that unless you cheat in a way by making a sector that is really skinny that is the height you want the door to be.

There are different effectors you can use for making doors, the one you are using (se 20 and 21) are just the simply way. For example the exploding building in Red Light District is a floor elevation that you can choose the height (and you can make it go on the roof if you want). But I can't figure what you mean in the bold part, are you talking about the texture on the wall side slide? |

Re: A few Duke Nukem 3D level editing questions....
Make a small triangular sector on one of the sides of the door frame, lower the ceiling to the height you want the door to open and then raise the floor of that small sector up to the ceiling. This should work and look like a plain normal wall.

Re: A few Duke Nukem 3D level editing questions....
Heh...yeah, it was really simple, simply bi-sected the wall again, no problem - I appreciate your help - heh, had no problem with anything else but a simple door overhang somehow eluded me, thanks again.

Re: A few Duke Nukem 3D level editing questions....
So, if I got it, your problem does was that the side slide of the doom door keep was moving with the door? Don't create a sector on the side, it uses a cstat of 4 for that. I don't remember a key to make it, but you can get it if you click TAB on a wall with cstat 4 on E1L1 and them copy it to your level.

Re: A few Duke Nukem 3D level editing questions....
Or you can use SE31 or 32. Then you can decide exactly how far the door sector will raise/lower.
