Duke Nukem 3D for XBLA joysticks
Hey, I am a huge Duke fan so I was ecstatic to hear it was coming to Xbox Live, especially with so many awesome features! I just downloaded it and it looks and plays great. I am very glad that all the buttons are customizable but I was sad to see that you do not support the "mixed" or "legacy" joystick configuration. It's where the left stick is move/turn and the right stick is look/strafe. I really prefer that joystick setup (I’m sure others do too) and I was wondering if there was any way for that feature to be added in the future. (It would also help in Prey too!) Thanks!

Edit: Yes, It is just like Perfect Dark and Goldeneye on the N64.

Here is a great site about alternate controls:

You could always flip the controller upside down and learn to use it that way

The triggers might be tough to use though

That's not exactly what I'm asking. It does have a setting for swapping the left and right sticks, not for mixing the sticks though.

I see what you're looking for. You want one stick to move forward/back on up/down and turn left/right on the left/right. The other stick would strafe left/right on left right and look up/down on up/down.

Never could get used to that setup, but it is in other games and some are used to it.

Maybe the 3DR team could add it as an update.. just an additional checkbox (off by default of course) called something like "swap strafe/turn". And the controls could still be swapped from one stick to another with the 'swap look/move' option.

Seems like it would be simple enough to implement...

That setup comes from goldeneye and other fps games on the N64 where you only have one analog stick. I used to play with it on the ps2 for a while due to being used to goldeneye and perfect dark. I got used to the more logical, one moves, the other looks setup fairly quickly once I tried it.

there is no southpaw set up?

you also might be able to set this up via your XBOX360 Prefences.

There is a southpaw setup, it's a control option called "swap look/move" that swaps the function of the two sticks. But that wasn't what he's talking about; He wants the legacy setup where (for example) the left stick moves forward/back and turns left/right, and the right stick looks up/down and strafes left/right.

Halo 1, 2, and 3 all support this stick layout, if you happen to have one of those, check it out.

Again, can't stand that layout myself but I've played people who couldn't play without having their controller set to that.. just what they're used to. To each his own.

Please dear 3D Realms Dream Team, implement this option or at least reply whether you could do it at all. I myself am also used to just using one analog stick for moving and turning and I am having such a hard time using two sticks. I think the lifes of many more dukers could be improved, since Duke is an old school game and back then they didnt have the 2 sticks yet.
