My copy of DN3D is confused...
(I think this is the right board...If I'm wrong, I apologize now. Yes, I'm new here. Still trying to get used to this place.)
So, anyway...I recently got a new copy of Atomic Edition, (My old DN3DAE was lost during a recent move) and it still has the same problem as my old one: It does not know what it's supposed to play. What do I mean? I mean it can't tell if it is supposed to be Duke D.C. or just the regular AE. On the title screen, where the Duke Nukem ATOMIC thing comes up, the "Duke it out in D.C." emblem is on the screen. Yet when I hit New Game, it shows the standard "Shrapnel City." And that's not all. My save game data has two Duke D.C. files. One from Nuked Files, and...Nuke Proof? It think that's the name...the last one. ANyway, I can acess these, and play from that point. If I manage to die and hit reset, I'm taken to the equivalent level is Shrapnel City. Same thing if I finish; I go to the next level in line according to Shrapnel City. AND, to top it off, I still have all the Duke D.C. map files as just that; map files. I haven't been able to run DC in years, (mostly because GAMER doesn't work anymore) yet most of its data is still on the computer. Which is weird, considering I used to have Carribean and Nuclear Winter, of which there is no trace of either. What's going on? And on a side note, I just got eDuke. So I can finally acess those DC map files. They still work, but the default music is E1's Red Light District's, I have to change it, and every time I beat a level, I'm whicsked to Hollywood Holocaust. So then I have to start with just the pistol each time. Also, is there any way to get the game demos to play at the main menu again? |

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
Allright man, i'll try and help but your problem sounds very confusing.
Stp.1 Make an empty folder anywhere on your computer Stp.2 Find the file named "DUKE3D.GRP" on your disk and copy and paste it into the empty folder Stp.3 Download the lastest version of EDuke32 from here: http://wiki.eduke32.com/stuff/eduke32_current.zip Stp.4 Copy all of the contents from the .ZIP you just downloaded and copy it to the folder. Stp.5 Run "eduke32.exe" and everything should run fine..... If you still have problems, post about them here. And also post the file named "eduke32.log" if you can.

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
I remember back when WizardWorks came out with these awesome add-ons, Duke Caribbean, Nuclear Winter, and of course Duke it out in D.C.
![]() For my friends and relatives, I fixed many of the problems associated with these add-ons and others conversions back then. But how I solved most all of the problems, back in the DOS days, was to create seperate Directories for EACH conversion or TC, period. Duke Nukem is not that big where this is not a very reasonable thing to do. I did a full install of Duke 3D or Duke Atomic (whichever the add-on required, and they are different), ran it to verify installation, and then installed above listed and many other add-on packs. My directory structure looks like this... C:\3DVR\DukeShar (Duke ShareWare) C:\3DVR\Duke_v11 (multiples with different versions) C:\3DVR\Duke_v13 "" "" C:\3DVR\DukeAtom (Atomic Edition) C:\3DVR\DukeCar (Duke Caribbean) C:\3DVR\Duke_DC (Duke it out in DC) C:\3DVR\Duke_NW (Duke Nuclear Winter) 3DVR just was 3D Virtual Reality, a term I adopted early to seperate early First Person Shooters from Side Scrollers like Duke 1&2, Halloween Harry <insert 150 other games here> I have never had problems running these this way, but I also run DOS for these games, so none of the above may apply or help. The way these add-ons switch things around can go wrong, so I never put the programs in the positions to make these errors. Once I add the conversion or Add-On, I didn't change it... and my DOS menu system was updated to load the correct start up file for each add-on version. MrBlackCat

Also, if you could'nt understand Radar's instructions on how to get Duke running then I don't know how else to help you. The instructions he provided are pretty simple to understand. Also again, the original demo files will not work with Eduke32, only demo files recorded with Eduke32 will work with Eduke32.

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
Oh, it's not that I didn't understand the insturctions, it's just that I tried it and it didn't work.
And it's not volume control, because when I exit and restar the game, the music comes back. THere's usually a / in front of the song name when this happens. (/Inhidng.Midi for example.) |

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
um, i have all my faith put into the fact that you just don't understand the intrustions. I honestly dout that you simply "tried it and it didn't work".
Wait, how on earth is it even possible for your DUKE3D.GRP file from your Atomic Edition CD to have Duke It Out In D.C. in it? Do you by any chance have a pirated version? I know you said that you had an actual hard copy of the game, but seriously what else am i supposed to think....... Unless of course you tried installing DukeDC after reading my intructions, which clearly wasn't in them. Just simply taking the .map files and dumping them in your directory isn't going to work. The process to install DukeDC is more complex then that. But the music problem... that sounds more like your computer is messed up.

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
I had hard copies of both. The D.C. disk was lost years ago, and it is not a pirated version. If I wasn't so secretive about my address, I would show the 3D Realms order form-thing, since I ordered D3D right from them.
I honestly don't know why DC is still "installed." (I use the term lightly) That's why I made this thread. Tog et some answers. |

post the file named "eduke32.log" that should be created in the directory right after you get out of EDuke32. Maybe that could help.

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
Hmm...For some reason, when I move it to a new folder, it says it can't find Duke3D.cfg. That's why I say it doesn't work. Only when I move something does that message appear, though. I take it that has something to do with directories, but I have no idea how to set those. >.<

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
What is "it"? What is "it" that you moved to a different folder? Try and be as specific as you can dude, It will help us out a lot to try and figure out whats the problem with your game.
![]() I'm am pretty sure that the new versions of EDuke32 should set Duke3d.cfg themselves. Are you sure you have the latest snapshot, the one i posted? Are you sure you are ONLY moving DUKE3D.GRP from your CD and not the whole directory from your CD? Please post the "eduke32.log" file

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
setup.exe is not included with the newest snapshot downloads of EDuke32, which was all i told him to download. Setup.exe isn't really all that nesecary, since all of the things that it was used for are now put in the game and are changable in the options menu.

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
By "It," I meant...I don't remember. Point taken.
When I manually search the CD files, I don't find Duke3D.cfg. So I just copy-paste certain files. I know now that certain .CON files don't like mods, that sovles some mysteries. BUt it still doens't work right. ANd for the log, what do you want me to bring up? I realize that the log changes everytime to start up eDuke, wether it be Duke 3D or some mod. DO you want me to start it up normally and copypaste the log? |

yup, copy and paste the log.
![]() and notice that i'm not saying for you to copy DUKE3D.CFG from your CD, but DUKE3D.GRP from your CD.

Re: My copy of DN3D is confused...
Im still not sure what you don't understand to get Duke Nukem running. Place the 3 files that are in the following picture in to a EMPTY FOLDER WITH NOTHIING ELSE and RUN EDUKE32.EXE and say YES to each box that comes up. It's that simple.
