A few Duke3D questions

Hi. First off, I finally picked up Duke3D for Xbox live, (Yay!) and DAMN is that game ever awesome!!! It's even better then I remember! And that new playback system for when you get killed ( I refer to it as the "Tivo Death system" ) is absolutely awesome! Now I can just run and gun without the slightest consideration for my own safety and survival. < D

That being said, onto the questions. . .

First of all, is it just me, or did they amp up the difficulty for the xbox release? I've been playing through every episode solo on "Come Get Some" difficulty, and I don't remember ever encountering anywhere near as much enemies per level back when I played it on the PC. So am I just not remembering it right, or did you guys actually pump it up? If so, THANKS GUYS! I love all the extra cannon fodder I've been blowing to shreds these days.

Secondly, and most importantly, is something that's been on my mind ever since I played Duke3D on the PC. . .

During the vast majority of Duke3D, I was encountering tied up and/or caccooned half naked women on a fairly regular basis, at least one or two each level. ( No complaints there ^_^ ) Now, my question is, Duke being such a big lover of sexy chicks and all. . . why didn't the 3DR staff ever give the player the opportunity to rescue these women? I mean, it's bad enough that when you click on them all they do is ask you to kill them, but then Duke just leaves them there, like WTF?

I'm not expecting Duke to bring them along and protect them or anything, as he's too busy kicking ass, but why didn't he have the option to at least untie these women and let 'em go?

Did you guys just not want to take the extra time to draw the animations, or. . .was everyone just so focused on fragging the monsters and blowing sh*t up that no one even thought about all the kidnapped sexy chicks Duke was fighting his way around?


( Sorry if that looks like I'm angry, I'm actually not, I'm just honestly curious)

Also, sort of in relation to that question, why did you guys make all the women say "Kill me" anyway?
I was expecting them to say something like "Save me, Duke" in some low, sexy, desperate tone or at the very least say SOMETHING to me after I cleared the area of all the enemies and left the womens captors corpses scattered all over the place. But no. . .they just beg to be killed. And I mean really. . I just finish killing all these guys, I'm pumped up with endorphines and testosterone, I have a half naked woman in front of me, and she expects me to kill her? Does she reeeeeeally think I'm gonna do that?

Or is it just that Duke's cocky attitude is actually a turn off for all the women, and when he gets close they're all like "Oh god. . .just kill me now", 'cause they can't stand him THAT much?

Oddly enough, if you ever played Duke Nukem 64, they had it so you could "save" the women. You press the "Use" button on them and the sound from the warp pads plays and they disappear with a few flashy blue streams of light.... to what I remember. That was over 8 years ago I played that game.... damn

Anyway, I assume they did this to make it more.. non violent towards women? But I actually prefer it. Not only does it add an extra stat to fill out at the end (2 / 3 Babes Saved), but I agree with you. Id rather not blast them apart.... Id rather save them

Do you seriously want to look at naked dudes? If your a girl then thats fine, but the majority of Duke Nukem fans are males.

Yea, now see, that's cool, that's how I think they should've done it originally, and I know they made saving the women the central theme of Duke: Manhattan Project as well, so, I just don't get why they didn't come up with that to begin with.

Well, one of the reasons it's only women is. .. I believe it mentioned in the manual somewhere that all the men where slaughtered and the women kidnapped. I'm assuming the women were spared just for gameplay purposes (otherwise we wouldn't get to see any strippers) or, for story purposes.

As for why they're all captured AND naked. . . . I have a theory on that.

You've all scene the Alien movies, right? You know how in "Aliens" there's this one scene where they find people in these cacoon like things on the wall, and they've actually been impregnated by the face-huggers?

Well, my reason for mentioning this is, I had theorized (especially when it came to those women on Duke3D in the greenish cacoon like things) that perhaps the monsters kept them alive so they could impregnate them. All the monsters seemed to be Male, at least from what I could tell, and they looked to be humanoid in shape, so it would make sence if they needed women of other species, essentially human women, in order to reproduce and expand their species.

If that was indeed the case, that could be another reason why the women are asking you to kill them, because the enemies have probably all ready had their way with them, and the women are ashamed because they know whats' growing inside them. That would suck, in their case, but it would make for an interesting story, at least as far as the captured women go.

Oh wow! I knew something like that had to be going on. I never had a chance to play episode 4 back in the day, so I never knew they actually had a story behind it
