Lol that cracks me up. Maybe they'll keep polishing like perfectionists till they're close to retirement and then release DNF.

I have the feeling that the polishingin the last years wasn't the kind of polish for a final product but more to get features working.

But what I'm interested are these infos
Quote:
t’s going really well. There are several hours of fairly polished game to play. We’re actively testing parts of the game and getting feedback from play testers and things are coming together. It’s fun, it’s in focus, we know what bits are fun and which are not, and it’s just a matter of time now. I’ve probably never been as happy or excited about the game as I am these days.
so there won't be any beta testing for us fans and customers.
If not its ok. Because I don't want to spoil myself the experience of DNF.

Weren't they in "content creation phase" the last few years? Iirc, George had often said they were putting the game together after it essentially became tech-complete. Never really heard him mention polish until the Jace Hall Show exclusive this year when he said polish passes routinely occurred alongside making new stuff.

And now we're hearing about active playtesting and feedback as well.

George is happy, I'm happy.

Hello :-)

I just read on the German PCgames website that the guys at 3D Relams making good progress. Some beta tester must be around the article says. Hopefully there are some guys among them who played the original Duke Nukem 3d.
So they can assure that it might be as cool as the original ;-)

Btw. How about secret passages/secret levels and allot of gags?
PPS. I still love the last page after a level was completet :-)

Why not, not capitalise every word? That made me go cross eyed.

The Unreal Engine 2 tech is kickass and as has already been pointed out 3DR already has written their own engine BASICALLY by rewriting the thing from the ground up in many places. The engine is undoubtedly in good shape by now, and its all about the gameplay and getting the style down and locked.

Re: "Development is swimming along nicely. Seriously nicely."
using unreal 2 tech is GREAT to em , it means that
1. more than likely it won't tax systems to much to get good visuals, look at UT3 it bassically uses the same , enigne as the other UT games (that is UR 2 tech) they just modified the enigne to add newer effects like bumb maping and such. my 6 year old alienware that i mentioned in another thread, runs ut3 almost as good as it runs UT 2k4.

2. less development time , yeah i know they already pushign 12 years , but imagine the time if they had went with a totally new engine they had to write and code them selfs

3. moddding , modding , modding , UT is king in online FPSer's because of it's modding capabilities , ther are tons of us builder guys out here , that know something about the UT toolset , even with thier modifications , it shouldn't be to hard for us UT hounds to figure out the differences (here's to hoping they release a custom version of the toolset much like running with sissors did for postal 2) , tehn we can build some awsome custom DNF maps for multiplayer

4. alst but not least !!!!!! it's great becuase 3dr says it is ! nuff said

Since they have rewritten pretty much everything that affects performance comparing it to UT3 says pretty much nothing. From the look of the teaser and the little they have mentioned about their tech they have taken a completly different aproach then Unreal Engine 3.

Actualy GB has said that in hind sight they should have made their own engine from the start which would probably have avoided the two restarts.

I think the word on the level editor has always been that it will ship with the game much like the UT games and 3D Realms own games. Hopefully we will get model export plugins for the popular 3D packages, access to the gameplay scripts and such as well.

Like everyone else on this forum has been doing for the past 10 years. Only reason people come here every day (or other day) is DNF info or technical issues with Duke 3D.
