Maxpayne MP1/2 mod community
New that the engine of Max Payne (presumably Max Payne 2 engine is exactly the same as the first only heavily improved) is aging compared to today's engines like the Crytek engine does this mean that modders would rather make maps and mods for Far Cry, Crysis or any more modern game then the old games like Max Payne 1, 2 or Doom or any classic game?

What I mean is is it worth making mods or maps for old games and how many people would play Max Payne 2 mods nowadays compared to Far Cry or Crysis? since MP1/2 are old games that means there are fewer people who play them or even heard of them right compared to the more modern games which sport a larger modding community?

Thankfully to Steam MP1/2 games can be bought and played trough Steam which also advertise some of the less heard games due to such, So how many people would play a mod or map of Max Payne 1 or 2 or Doom maps/mods compared to modern moddable games? is it worth making a mod or map on old games?

This question has irritated me for a while, I own both MP1/2 and some of the more nextgen games like FC1/2 as well as Crysis and it's expansion Warhead. (as well as plenty of other games that may end up forgotten somedya in the future)

Also with the upcoming MP3 would that mean it that MP1/2 mods would seriously drop in favor of MP3?

Re: MP1/2 mod community
In all honesty I don't think Max Payne 3 will have mod tools, official ones anyway. Rockstar don't seem to encourage modding, but there's so much demand for it in the GTA series that plenty of people code their own tools. I've never seen someone code a third party level designer though, so I'd forget the idea of making maps for MP3.

Also, Crysis to me was just a tech demo with a generic plot attached to justify selling it. Sure it was pretty but it had no depth, Far Cry 2 was the same. A lot of the same missions over and over while your guns rust. I'd much rather play some interesting and well thought out Max Payne 1 & 2 mods over those.

In fact, I'm still eagerly awaiting The Real World and Dawn of the Dead for MP1 and I'd definitely check out any promising mods posted either here or on ModDB.com. So yeah, I'd rather mod for Payne over Crysis or Far Cry.

Talking Re: MP1/2 mod community
Is it that you're saying that old games have less modding communities then the more modern games?

Think twice before you post, idd you ever look at the Doom mods? Doom is still being modded even til today and it's modding community is strong as well as there are still alot of people playing Doom online, I know I still do since setup a deathmatch with my friends, Don't be discouraged to do a mod for Doom or MP1 or 2 actually I'l welcome you to do so.

Think twice before I post? I thought I was pretty clear that I'd rather play older modded games than new ones.

I'm well aware of the modding community for retro games.

Re: MP1/2 mod community
I think Analynn was referring to me Zom-B :| if anything I am the one who were in doubt about the modding communities about retro games, if it's true that Doom is still popular in modding then MP1/2 are still strong in modding then.

However looking at Tomb Raider level editor which uses the Tomb Raider 4 engine there are many levels for it with heavy hacking so it will use costume wads even to the point it changes gameplay somewhat, looking in trle.net that is, so yeah I obviously find MP2 more fun then FC1 (FC1 is not a bad game imo, it has some enjoyable gameplay here and there and a few good mods and maps but compared to MP1 and 2...) the only thing that blows me off from trying to mod for MP2 is how many people still have MP2 and how much is it popular now? the less popular the less people would play MP2 maps or mods since now the game is 7 years old it will lose it's players and with the upcoming MP3 it might either inspire people to buy and play the old series or many people would suddenly lose interest in the old games except the hard core ones. (include me in this list, I love Max Payne 2 especially for it's action and great mods like the 7th serpent)
