Love Just finished Max Payne I
Just finished Max Payne; had to resort to a download of a save to escape the booby-trapped liftshaft but got there in the end.

All in all this is one of the best games I have played ranking along with Thief, Deus Ex and Half Life; all three of which were parodied at some stage during the game.

If I had a complaint it is silly things like jumping from one blood trail to another in space, the burning resturant and the above mentioned liftshaft sections where the developer just tries to slow you down and make things difficult and waste your time. There's a lot of that in Half-Life as well.

Great story; though it petered out in the last main level, and the feeling of New York in the cold winter snow was bracing and refreshing.

I would have liked more interaction within the game and the ability to stop a cutscenes which are repeated over and over again everytime you are unlucky to get get killed after one.

nine out of ten.

Now I'm off to play Max Payne 2!

I recently finished the game too. I've played it before in the PS2 console, but I grabbed a new PC copy just for kicks. I really enjoy the PC default controls, in comparison with the console ones. The action and gameplay, of course, is the thing that draws me to this game more than anything, but it feels a bit repetitive in some parts. The story feels a bit generic, but the narrative and the comic-strip feel to the story makes it less dull.

I've already started a new game in the second difficulty setting and I find myself resorting to the Quick Save option too much :P Guess I'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

I wonder how the Max Payne 2 compares to this one. I haven't had the chance to play it yet.

You'll love Max Payne II, what's great is that the game does not tire as many do when they have a sequel.

But you will never have that same grainy feeling again that you felt in the midst of that moody snowstorm in Max I. In the midst of the bloodshed the peaceful snow gave the game an edge.

And the good news is that the same developers are making a much looked forward game on a similar theme called Alan Lake.

Though I'm hoping for Max Payne III.

As you say the game can become repetatitive in the sense that you are moving from room to room taking out bad guys and that gets a bit one-dimensional and needs boosting from the comic strip.

Hope you'll stay with the forum and let us know how your gameplay is going.

Remedy's new game is called Alan Wake.

Max Payne and Max Payne II are two of the best games ever. I'm glad yet another player is getting a chance to see just how great they are.

I'm still hoping that somehow Remedy will get Alan Wake finished up soon and then will take over work on Max Payne III, as no one will do as good a job as they will. Or at least I hope Remedy will write the story.

There's a annoying dream sequence similar to that in Max Payne 2 also.

These dream sequences are the only thing I don't like in the 2 games, but apart from that these 2 games are my favorites, especially Max Payne 1......

My experience is almot the same as yours except I already have 2 PS2 copies of MPII (once I picked the PS2 instead of PC by accident).

Whats wrong with these guys? Max III should be in production already! I hope Remedy did'nt get bored with Max. I heard the sales were poor but in my experience these games are sold very badly.

Thief which is another favourite of mine has the same problem. The developers would rather spend the money on promoting the more popular but less interesting stuff.

I only heard of Max I by accident but it ranks with Thief, Half Life and Deus Ex as my best ever.

Re: Just finished Max Payne I
The intellectual property rights for the Max Payne franchise were sold to Take-Two after the success of Max Payne. The Fall of Max Payne was developed by Remedy, but was a Take-Two property. As Take-Two wanted it out the door in 2 years, there was no time to do things like the Easter Eggs in Max Payne.

If I remember correctly, Take-Two's CEO said that The Fall of Max Payne sold only as well as an average console game (which may be an euphemism for "sold like crap"). At any rate, it will be up to Take-Two to find a developer/producer/etc for Max Payne 3.

flat panel monitor, he got fatter in widescreen but I sure love being back in the snow.
