A few remastered Duke3d tracks using Synthfont
Hey Guys. I remastered 3 ambient tracks from Duke Nukem 3d a while back (Gloomy, Plasma, Whomp) using Synthfont and I figured I'd share them. With these I really tried to capture the mood of playing those levels for the first time, as well as putting a lot of bass in them. Any feedback would be great.

Re: A few remastered Duke3d tracks using Synthfont
Just listened. I assume you just played back the tracks on a soundfont you had. And not a very good soundfont at that. The samples are very noticeably low quality and some don't even have any reverb effects making the whole thing sound very dry. I kinda like the synth/string sounds on plasma, though, if only because they bring the nostalgia back of the good old days when I used to listen to low quality MOD files. Most of the time it just comes off as playing through some MIDI device as equally bad as Windows' built-in wavetable.

Re: A few remastered Duke3d tracks using Synthfont
Out of the three plasma did turn out quite well, though I would argue these sound a good deal better than the microsoft synthesizer. Either way, I used a couple of free soundfonts from a few places (fluid, chromium and such) and from there I think I've reached the limit on the quality of free sound fonts that I can use. Layering a few more of the instruments could improve the sound a great deal but once again for all intents and purposes (for use with a sourceport) I'm quite happy with the results. They're certainly comparable to other versions of these tracks that I've heard.
