Xbox Live Idea

With the impending release of Duke 3D and all of the cool things that are coming with it, an idea popped into my head. Why not have 3DR picture packs and themes? There are going to be Duke 3D packs and hopefully themes, so why not other 3DR titles? It would be cool as hell to have a couple of different picture packs with each one representing something like 5 games a piece. Having some themes could be cool as well. If it is cheap enough to do, I see something like this as being a no brainer for 3DR.

I'll add a "Why not".

Of course Apogee/3DR characters are mostly DOS/PC icons, not to mention from a while ago, so it could be a bit risky releasing picture packs/themes on a modern console platform.
A gamerpic could theoretically take just a few minutes to make, but there's still Microsoft's certification process.
I'm guessing ultimately that will cost the developer as well.
I expect MS gets a cut from every item sold, so who knows where the break even point lies.

Adding to the idea of revisiting old games, I'd love to see those characters appear for multiplayer in DNF and whatever else will be made.

Plus Microsoft would want to have it there. Remember, XBLA is not a dumping ground for any idea anyone comes up with. Microsoft has to want it there. The chances of them wanting a picture pack based on old Apogee games not even on their system is rather minimal, I would think.

Understood, but not unprecedented - Rareware has a theme and at least one picture pack themed around their old ZX Spectrum games.

Also, don't forget Rare is owned by Microsoft.

Well, I know that Wolf 3D or SOD (maybe a package deal) would probably be good, just wish that would've been on XBLA before Doom was, tho. However, I believe that it would have to be a partner deal between Apogee and id Software to make that happen.

You already have that with the Duke 3D Arcade, I d/led a couple of packs already for both theme and gamer pic.

I don't think that's true. I think id owns Wolf 3D completely and can distribute it how they like.
