The fall of Apogee/3DR

THis is my point of view of the whole collapse of the company. Apogee basically did not keep up with the business and the surrounding world. The handling of DNF was like most earlier apogee titles apogee would put out some shots in there latest catalog or game disk of an new title with the relese date listed in normal fashion "WHEN IT'S DONE" witch in the 80's and 90's worked well but with the internet age gamers expect constant updates of an in progress game and the press wants constant inside info on companies apogee usually kept info on in progress stuff out of the media. DNF suffered from both we would get an date at an e3 then an announcement that the game was set to be re engineered to another engine or technology. the 3dr name went from a high end name to a secondary label. most of the creditability the company had was lost promateing this game. Apogee did what most places would not do like sell dos apps well past the end of the dos era. But apogee lacks what id and epic have tech to sell. id and epic can basically make income out every game they make by selling the source to other companies to use. the last thing apogee had to sell was build that in the Win 95 era was insistent would not run with windows active in the background. around that time doom was running windows native. not to sound like i am thrashing 3dr but it may have been a bad sign when atari sold off rights to publish apogee software to 2k and it seems that 2k is suing the wrong party Atari sold them the bad account and the refusal to even actually invest in 3dr thinking atari sent an check over after the sale.
